In order to give an idea of the potential of the USSR in its efforts to maintain parity with the United States in this sphere, we only need to point out that when its disintegration occurred in 1991, in Byelorussia there were 81 nuclear warheads, in Kazakhstan 1400 and in the Ukraine approximately 5000; all these went over to the Russian Federation, the only state capable of sustaining its immense cost, in order to maintain independence.

By virtue of the START and SORT treaties on the reduction of offensive weapons signed by the two great nuclear powers, the number of these was reduced to several thousand.

In 2010, a new treaty of this kind was signed by the two powers.

Since then the greatest efforts have been dedicated to improving direction, scope and precision and to the deception of adversary defence.  Huge amounts of money have been invested in the military sphere.

Very few persons in the world, other than a handful of thinkers and scientists, notice and warn about the fact that the explosion of 100 nuclear strategic weapons would suffice to put an end to human life on the planet.  The great majority would have an end that would be as inexorable as it would be horrible, resulting from the Nuclear Winter that would be generated.

The number of countries possessing nuclear weapons at this time has gone up to eight; five of them are members of the Security Council: the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and China. India and Pakistan acquired the nature of countries possessing nuclear weapons in 1974 and 1998 respectively. The seven aforementioned countries acknowledge this nature.

By contrast, Israel has never acknowledged its nature as a nuclear country. Nevertheless, it is calculated that it possesses between 200 and 500 weapons of this type, without taking the hint when the world becomes concerned by the extremely serious problems that the outbreak of a war in the region producing a large part of the energy moving industry and agriculture on the planet would bring.

Thanks to possessing weapons of mass destruction, Israel has been able to play its role as the instrument of imperialism and colonialism in that Middle Eastern region.

We are not dealing with the legitimate right of the Israeli people to live and work in peace and freedom; we are dealing precisely with the rights for freedom and peace of the other peoples in the region.

While Israel was speedily creating a nuclear arsenal, in 1981 it attacked and destroyed the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osirak. It did exactly the same thing to the Syrian reactor at Dayr az-Zawr in 2007, an occurrence of which world opinion was oddly not informed. The UN and the IAEA were perfectly well aware of that event. Such actions had the support of the United States and the Atlantic Alliance.

There is nothing odd about the fact that the most senior Israeli authorities are now proclaiming their intention of doing the same thing with Iran. That country, immensely wealthy in oil and gas, had been the victim of the conspiracies of Great Britain and the United States, whose oil companies were pillaging their resources. Their armed forces were equipped with the most modern weaponry of the US war industry.

Shah Reza Pahlevi also hoped to be supplied with nuclear weapons. Nobody was attacking his research centers. The Israeli war was waged against the Arab Muslims. Not against those in Iran, because they had become a NATO bastion that was aiming at the heart of the USSR. 

The masses in that nation, deeply religious, under the leadership of the Ayatollah Khomeini, challenging the power of those weapons, ousted the Shah from his throne and disarmed one of the best equipped armies in the world without a shot being fired.

Due to their capacity for struggle, the number of inhabitants and the size of the country, an aggression against Iran bears no similarity with the war adventures of Israel in Iraq and Syria. A bloody war would inevitably break out.  We can have no doubts about that.

Israel has a large number of nuclear weapons and the capacity of having them reach any point in Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania. I am wondering: does the IAEA have the moral right to sanction and smother a country if it intends to do what Israel has done in the heart of the Middle East, for its own defence?

I really think that no country in the world should possess nuclear weapons and that energy should be put at the service of the human species. Without that spirit of cooperation, humankind marches inexorably towards its own destruction. Among the citizens of Israel themselves, a hard-working and intelligent people without a doubt, many do not agree with that absurd, irrational policy that is also taking them down the road to total destruction.

What is being said these days in the world on the economic situation?

International news agencies inform that President Barack Obama of the United States and his Chinese peer Hu Jintao presented differing trade agendas, underlining the growing tensions between the two major world economies.

Reuters states that Obama used his speech to threaten China with economic sanctions unless it starts to play according to the rules. Undoubtedly, such rules are US interests.

The news agency states that Obama is embarked on the re-election battle for next year and his Republican opposition is accusing him of not being severe enough with China.

News printed on Thursday and Friday shows the realities we are living much better.

The best informed US agency AP reports that the supreme Iranian leader warned the United States and Israel that Iran’s answer would be energetic if its arch-enemies were to launch a military attack on Iran.

The German news agency informed that China had stated that, as always, it believed dialogue and cooperation were the only way of active rapprochement to solve the problem.

Russia was also opposed to punitive measures against Iran. 

Germany rejected the military option but revealed itself to be for strong sanctions against Iran.

The United Kingdom and France advocate strong and energetic sanctions.

The Russian Federation assured that it would do everything possible to avoid a military operation against Iran and it criticized the IAEA report.

Konstantin Kosachov, head of the Duma Foreign Affairs Committee, stated that a military operation against Iran could bring very serious consequences and Russia would have to put all its weight into smoothing feelings over.  According to EFE, he criticized statements by the US, France and Israel about the possible use of force and that the launching of a military operation against Iran is getting closer day by day.

Edward Spannaus, editor of the US magazine EIR, stated that the attack against Iran would end up as World War III.

The US Defence Secretary himself, after a trip to Israel a few days ago, acknowledged that he was not able to get any commitment from the Israeli government on prior consultation with the US on an attack against Iran. Those are the extremes we have reached.

The US under-secretary for political and military affairs harshly revealed the empire’s sinister aims.

On Saturday, Andrew Shapiro, Under-Secretary for Political and Military Affairs of the United States stated that Israel and the United States shall embark on more important joint manoeuvres that are of greater transcendence in the history of the allies.

 At the Washington Institute for Middle Eastern Policy, Shapiro announced that more than 5,000 US and Israeli armed forces troops will take part in the manoeuvres simulating the defence of Israel’s ballistic missiles. 

He added that Israeli technology was becoming essential to improve US national security and to protect US troops.

Shapiro emphasized the support of the Obama government for Israel, in spite of comments on Friday by a senior US official who expressed his concern about Israel not warning the US before starting military action against Iranian nuclear installations.

He said that US relations with Israeli security are broader, more profound and more intense than ever before.

According to him, the US supports Israel because it is in US national interest to do so. It is the solid Israeli military force that is deterring possible aggressors and helps to promote peace and stability.

Today, on November 13, Susan Rice, US ambassador to the UN, told the BBC that the possibility of military intervention in Iran was not only still on the table but that it was a real option that is growing because of Iranian conduct. 

She insisted that the US administration is reaching the conclusion that it will be necessary to end the current regime in Iran in order to prevent it from creating a nuclear arsenal. Rice acknowledged that she was convinced that the change in regime is going to be the US’ only option there.

We do not need to add a single word.

Cinismo Genocida - Segunda parte y final

Para dar una idea del potencial de la URSS en sus esfuerzos por mantener la paridad con Estados Unidos en esta esfera, basta señalar que cuando se produjo su desintegración en 1991, en Bielorrusia habían 81 cabezas nucleares, en Kazajstán 1400 y en Ucrania aproximadamente 5000, las cuales pasaron a la Federación Rusa, único Estado capaz de sostener su inmenso costo, para mantener la independencia.

En virtud de los tratados START y SORT, sobre reducción de armas ofensivas suscritos entre las dos grandes potencias nucleares, el numero de estas se redujo a varios miles.

En el 2010 se firmó un nuevo Tratado de este tipo entre ambas potencias.

Desde entonces los mayores esfuerzos se consagraron al perfeccionamiento de los medios de dirección, alcance, precisión y engaño de la defensa adversaria. Inmensas cifras se invierten en la esfera militar.

Muy pocos en el mundo, salvo contados pensadores y científicos, se percatan y advierten que bastaría el estallido de 100 armas nucleares estratégicas para poner fin a la existencia humana en el planeta. La inmensa mayoría tendría un fin tan inexorable como horrible a consecuencia del Invierno Nuclear que se generaría.

El número de países que poseen armas nucleares en este momento se eleva a ocho, cinco de ellos son miembros del Consejo de Seguridad: Estados Unidos, Rusia, Reino Unido, Francia, y China. India y Pakistán, adquirieron el carácter de países poseedores de armas nucleares en 1974 y 1998 respectivamente. Los siete mencionados reconocen ese carácter.

Israel, en cambio, nunca ha reconocido su carácter de país nuclear. Se calcula sin embargo que posee entre 200 y 500 armas de ese tipo, sin darse por aludido cuando el mundo se inquieta por los gravísimos problemas que traería el estallido de una guerra en la región donde se produce gran parte de la energía que mueve la industria y la agricultura del planeta.

Gracias a la posesión de las armas de destrucción masiva es que Israel ha podido desempeñar su papel como instrumento del imperialismo y el colonialismo en esa región del Medio Oriente.

No se trata del derecho legítimo del pueblo israelita a vivir y trabajar en paz y libertad, se trata precisamente del derecho de los demás pueblos de la región a la libertad y a la paz.

Mientras Israel creaba aceleradamente un arsenal nuclear, atacó y destruyó, en 1981, el reactor nuclear iraquí en Osirak. Hizo exactamente lo mismo con el reactor sirio en Dayr az-Zawr en el año 2007, un hecho del que extrañamente la opinión mundial no fue informada. Las Naciones Unidas y la OIEA conocían perfectamente lo ocurrido. Tales acciones contaban con el apoyo de Estados Unidos y la Alianza Atlántica.

Nada tiene de extraño que las más altas autoridades de Israel proclamen ahora su intención de hacer lo mismo con Irán. Ese país, inmensamente rico en petróleo y gas, había sido víctima de las conspiraciones de Gran Bretaña y Estados Unidos, cuyas empresas petroleras saqueaban sus recursos. Sus fuerzas armadas fueron equipadas con el armamento más moderno de la industria bélica de Estados Unidos.

El Sha Reza Pahlevi también aspiraba a dotarse de armas nucleares. Nadie atacaba sus centros de investigación. La guerra de Israel era contra los musulmanes árabes. Los de Irán no, porque se habían convertido en un baluarte de la OTAN que apuntaba al corazón de la URSS.   

Las masas de esa nación, profundamente religiosas, bajo la dirección del Ayatolá Khomeini, desafiando el poder de aquellas armas, desalojaron al Sha del trono y desarmaron a uno de los ejércitos mejor equipados del mundo sin disparar un tiro.

Por su capacidad de lucha, el número de habitantes y la extensión del país, una agresión a Irán, no guarda similitud con las aventuras bélicas de Israel en Irak y Siria. Una sangrienta guerra se desataría inevitablemente. Sobre eso no debe haber duda alguna.

Israel dispone de un elevado número de armas nucleares y la capacidad de hacerlas llegar a cualquier punto de Europa, Asia, África y Oceanía. Me pregunto: ¿Tiene la OIEA derecho moral a sancionar y asfixiar a un país si intenta hacer en su propia defensa lo que Israel hizo en el corazón del Oriente Medio?

Pienso realmente que ningún país del mundo debe poseer armas nucleares, y que esa energía debe ponerse al servicio de la especie humana. Sin ese espíritu de cooperación la humanidad marcha inexorablemente hacia su propia destrucción. Entre los propios ciudadanos de Israel, un pueblo sin duda laborioso e inteligente, muchos no estarán de acuerdo con esa disparatada y absurda política que los lleva también al desastre total. 

¿De qué se habla hoy en el mundo sobre la situación económica?

Las agencias internacionales de noticias informan que “El presidente de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, y su par chino, Hu Jintao, presentaron agendas comerciales divergentes […] resaltando las crecientes tensiones entre las dos mayores economías del mundo.”

“Obama usó su discurso ―afirma Reuters― para amenazar con sanciones económicas a China a menos que comience a ‘jugar según las reglas’…”. Tales reglas son sin duda, los intereses de Estados Unidos.

“Obama ―afirma la agencia― está embarcado en la batalla por la reelección el año próximo y sus opositores republicanos lo acusan de no ser lo suficientemente severo con China.”

Las noticias publicadas el jueves y viernes reflejaban mucho mejor las realidades que estamos viviendo.

AP, la agencia de Estados Unidos mejor informada comunicó: “El líder supremo iraní advirtió a Estados Unidos e Israel que la respuesta de Irán será enérgica si sus archienemigos lanzan un ataque militar a Irán…”

La agencia noticiosa alemana informó que China había declarado que, como siempre, creía que el diálogo y la cooperación era la única forma de aproximación activa para resolver el problema.

Rusia se opuso igualmente a las medidas punitivas contra Irán.

Alemania rechazó la opción militar pero se mostró partidaria de fuertes sanciones contra Irán.

El Reino Unido y Francia abogan por fuertes y enérgicas sanciones.

La Federación Rusa aseguró que hará todo lo posible por evitar una operación militar contra Irán y criticó el informe de la OIEA.

“‘Una operación militar contra Irán puede conllevar unas consecuencias muy graves y Rusia tendrá que poner todo de su parte para aplacar los ánimos’, afirmó Kontantín Kosachov, jefe del comité de Exteriores de la Duma” y criticó según EFE “las afirmaciones por parte de Estados Unidos, Francia e Israel del posible uso de la fuerza y que el lanzamiento de una operación militar contra Irán está cada vez más cerca”.

El editor de la revista estadounidense EIR, Edward Spannaus declaró que el ataque contra Irán terminará en la III Guerra Mundial.

El propio Secretario de Defensa de Estados Unidos, después de viajar a Israel hace unos días, reconoció que no pudo obtener del gobierno israelita un compromiso de consultar previamente con Estados Unidos un ataque contra Irán. A esos extremos se ha llegado.

El Subsecretario de Asuntos Políticos y Militares de Estados Unidos develó crudamente los oscuros propósitos del imperio:

“Israel y Estados Unidos se embarcarán en las maniobras conjuntas ‘más importante’ y ‘de mayor trascendencia’ de la historia de los aliados, ha declarado el sábado Anrew Shapiro, subsecretario de Asuntos Políticos y Militares de Estados Unidos”.

“…en el […] Instituto Washington para la Política del Cercano Oriente, Shapiro anunció que participarán en las maniobras más de 5.000 efectivos de las fuerzas armadas estadounidenses e israelíes y simulará la defensa de misiles balísticos de Israel”.

“‘La tecnología israelí está resultando esencial para mejorar nuestra seguridad nacional y proteger a nuestras tropas’, agregó…”

“Shapiro destacó el apoyo del Gobierno de Obama a Israel a pesar de los comentarios del viernes por parte de un alto funcionario estadounidense que expresó su preocupación de que Israel no avisase a Estados Unidos antes de llevar a cabo una acción militar contra las instalaciones nucleares de Irán.”

“Nuestra relación con la seguridad de Israel es más amplia, más profunda y más intensa que nunca antes.”

“‘Apoyamos a Israel porque es en nuestro interés nacional hacerlo’ […] Es la pura fuerza militar de Israel lo que disuade a los posibles agresores y ayuda a fomentar la paz y la estabilidad.”

Hoy 13 de noviembre la embajadora norteamericana en la ONU, Susan Rice dijo a la cadena BBC que la posibilidad de una intervención militar en Irán no solo no está fuera de la mesa, sino que es una opción real que está creciendo por culpa del comportamiento Iraní.

Insistió en que la administración norteamericana está llegando a la conclusión de que será necesario acabar con el actual régimen de Irán para evitar que este cree un arsenal nuclear. “Soy una convencida de que el cambio de régimen va a ser nuestra única opción aquí”, reconoció Rice.

No sane person, especially someone who has had access to the elementary knowledge acquired in primary school, would agree that our species, especially those who are children, teenagers or youth, should be deprived of the right to live, today, tomorrow and forever.  Never have human beings, throughout their eventful history, as persons endowed with intelligence, ever heard of an experience like that. 

I feel the duty to convey to those taking the trouble to read these Reflections the opinion that all of us, with no exception, are obliged to create awareness about the risks that humankind are running in an inexorable manner, towards a final and total catastrophe as the consequence of irresponsible decisions made by politicians who fate, rather than talent or merit, has placed the destiny of humankind in their hands. 

Whether they are citizens of their country or not, whether they are followers of some religious belief or unbelievers, no human being in their right mind would agree that their children or closest kin should perish precipitously or as victims of atrocious and torturous misery. 

On the heels of the repugnant crimes that are being increasingly committed by NATO under the aegis of the United States and the wealthiest countries in Europe, the gaze of the world focused on the G-20 meeting where the profound economic crisis affecting every nation today should have been analyzed. International opinion, especially in Europe, was awaiting an answer for the profound economic crisis that, with its serious social and even climatic implications, is threatening every inhabitant on the planet. At that meeting, it was being decided whether the Euro would be able to be kept as the common currency for most of Europe and even whether some of the countries would be able to remain in the community. 

There was no answer or solution of any kind for the most serious problems of the world economy despite the efforts of China, Russia, Indonesia, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina and other emerging economies, anxious to cooperate with the rest of the world in the search for solutions for the serious economic problems affecting them.

What was unusual was that just when NATO concluded the Libyan operation – after the air attack that injured the constitutional head of that country, destroyed the vehicle carrying him and leaving him at the mercy of the empire’s mercenaries who murdered him and exhibited his body as a war trophy, violating Muslim customs and traditions – the IAEA, a UN body and an institution that ought to stand for world peace, released the political, money-driven and sectarian report putting the world on the brink of war with the use of nuclear weapons that the Yankee empire, in alliance with Great Britain and Israel,  has been meticulously preparing against Iran.

After the veni, vidi, vici of the famous Roman emperor more than two thousand years ago, translated to “I came, I saw and he died” broadcast for public opinion by an important television network as soon as the death of Gaddafi had been learned of, there are more than enough words to describe US policy.

Now what is important is the need to create clear awareness in the peoples about the abyss towards which humankind is being led.  Twice our Revolution lived through dramatic dangers: in October of 1962, the most critical of all where humankind was on the brink of nuclear holocaust; and in mid-1987 when our forces were facing racist South African troops armed with nuclear weapons that the Israelis had helped them create.

The Shah of Iran also collaborated, along with Israel, with the racist and fascist South African regime.  

What is the UN? An organization driven by the United States before the end of World War II.  That nation, whose territory was considerably far away from the theatre of war, had incredibly increased its wealth; it accumulated 80% of the world’s gold and under the leadership of Roosevelt, a sincere anti-fascist, it promoted the development of the nuclear weapon that Truman, his successor, a mediocre oligarch, did not hesitate in using against the defenceless cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.  

The world’s gold monopoly in United States’ power and the prestige of Roosevelt handed the US the Bretton Woods agreement, assigning it the role of issuing the dollar as the only currency to be used for decades in world trade, with no limiting factor other that it’s being backed by the gold metal.

At the end of that war, the US was also the only country possessing the nuclear weapon, a privilege it did not hesitate in transmitting to its allies and members in the Security Council: Great Britain and France, the two most important colonial powers in the world at that time.

Truman had not even informed the USSR one single word about the atomic weapon before using it.  China, at that time governed by Nationalist General Chiang Kai-shek, a pro-Yankee oligarch, could not be excluded from that Security Council. 

The USSR, seriously stricken by the war, destruction and the loss of more than 20 million of its sons and daughters in the Nazi invasion, dedicated considerable economic, scientific and human resources to bring its nuclear capacity up to par with that of the United States.  Four years later, in 1949, it tested its first nuclear weapon: the H-bomb in 1953; and in 1955 its first megaton bomb.  France had its first nuclear weapon in 1960.

There were only three countries that had the nuclear bomb in 1957 when the UN, under the aegis of the Yankees, created the International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA).  Does anybody think that US instrument did anything to warn the world about the terrible dangers to which it would expose human society when Israel, unconditional US and NATO ally, located in the very heartland of the world’s most important oil and gas reserves, would become a dangerous and aggressive nuclear power?

Its forces, cooperating with colonial British and French troops, attacked Port Said when Abdel Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal, French property; this forced the Soviet premier to send an ultimatum demanding the ceasing of that aggression that the European allies of the US had no alternative other than to attack.

Cinismo Genocida - Primera Parte

Ninguna persona cuerda, especialmente aquellos que tuvieron acceso a los conocimientos elementales que se adquieren en una escuela primaria, estaría de acuerdo con que nuestra especie, de modo particular los que son niños, adolescentes o jóvenes, sean privados hoy, mañana y para siempre del derecho a vivir. Jamás los seres humanos a lo largo de su azarosa historia, como personas dotadas de inteligencia, conocieron experiencia semejante.

Me siento en el deber de transmitir a aquellos que se toman la molestia de leer estas reflexiones, el criterio de que todos, sin excepción, estamos en la obligación de crear conciencia sobre los riesgos que la humanidad está corriendo de forma inexorable, hacia una catástrofe definitiva y total como consecuencia de las decisiones irresponsables de políticos a quienes el azar, más que el talento o el mérito, puso en sus manos el destino de la humanidad.

Sean o no los ciudadanos de su país, portadores de una creencia religiosa o escépticos con relación al tema, ningún ser humano en su sano juicio estaría de acuerdo con que sus hijos, o familiares más allegados, perezcan de forma abrupta o víctimas de atroces y torturantes sufrimientos.

Tras los crímenes repugnantes que con frecuencia creciente viene cometiendo la Organización del Tratado del Atlántico Norte, bajo la égida de Estados Unidos y los países más ricos de Europa, la atención mundial se concentró en la reunión del G-20, donde se debía analizar la profunda crisis económica que afecta hoy a todas las naciones. La opinión internacional, y particularmente la europea, esperaban respuesta a la profunda crisis económica que con sus profundas implicaciones sociales, e incluso climáticas, amenazan a todos los habitantes del planeta. En esa reunión se decidía si el euro podía mantenerse como la moneda común de la mayor parte de Europa, e incluso si algunos países podrían permanecer dentro de la comunidad.

No hubo respuesta ni solución alguna para los problemas más serios de la economía mundial a pesar de los esfuerzos de China, Rusia, Indonesia, Sudáfrica, Brasil, Argentina y otros de economía emergente, deseosos de cooperar con el resto del mundo en la búsqueda de soluciones a los graves problemas económicos que le afectan.

Lo insólito es que apenas la OTAN dio por concluida la operación en Libia —tras el ataque aéreo que hirió al jefe constitucional de ese país, destruyó el vehículo que lo transportaba y lo dejó a merced de los mercenarios del imperio, quienes lo asesinaron y exhibieron como trofeo de guerra, ultrajando costumbres y tradiciones musulmanas— la OIEA, órgano de Naciones Unidas, una institución que debiera estar al servicio de la paz mundial, lanzó el informe político, tarifado y sectario, que pone el mundo al borde de la guerra con empleo de armas nucleares que el imperio yanki, en alianza con Gran Bretaña e Israel, viene preparando minuciosamente contra Irán.

Después del “Veni, vidi, vici” del famoso emperador romano hace más de dos mil años, traducido al “vine, vi y murió” transmitido a la opinión pública a través de una importante cadena de televisión tan pronto se conoció la muerte de Gaddafi, sobran las palabras para calificar la política de Estados Unidos.

Lo que importa ahora es la necesidad de crear en los pueblos una conciencia clara del abismo hacia dónde la humanidad está siendo conducida. Dos veces nuestra Revolución conoció riesgos dramáticos: en octubre de 1962, el más crítico de todos en que la humanidad estuvo al borde del holocausto nuclear; y a mediados de 1987 cuando nuestras fuerzas se enfrentaban a las tropas racistas sudafricanas, dotadas con las armas nucleares que los israelitas les ayudaron a crear.

El Sha de Irán también colaboró junto a Israel con el régimen racista y fascista surafricano.

¿Qué es la ONU?, una organización impulsada por Estados Unidos antes de finalizar la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Esa nación, cuyo territorio distaba considerablemente de los escenarios de guerra, se había enriquecido enormemente; acumuló el 80% del oro del mundo y bajo la dirección de Roosevelt, sincero antifascista, impulsó el desarrollo del arma nuclear que Truman, sucesor suyo, oligarca y mediocre, no vaciló en usar contra las ciudades indefensas de Hiroshima y Nagasaki en el año 1945.

El monopolio del oro mundial en poder de Estados Unidos, y el prestigio de Roosevelt, le permitió el acuerdo de Bretton Woods que le asignó el papel de emitir el dólar como única divisa que se utilizó durante años en el comercio mundial, sin otra limitante que su respaldo en oro metálico.

Estados Unidos, al finalizar aquella guerra, era también el único país que poseía el arma nuclear, privilegio que no vaciló en transmitirle a sus aliados y miembros del Consejo de Seguridad: Gran Bretaña y Francia, las dos más importantes potencias coloniales del mundo en aquella época.

A la URSS, Truman ni siquiera le informó una palabra del arma atómica antes de usarla. China, entonces gobernada por el general nacionalista, oligárquico y proyanki, Chiang Kai-shek, no podía ser excluido de aquel Consejo de Seguridad.

La URSS, golpeada duramente por la guerra, la destrucción y la pérdida de más de 20 millones de sus hijos por la invasión nazi, consagró ingentes recursos económicos, científicos y humanos para equiparar su capacidad nuclear con la de Estados Unidos. Cuatro años después, en 1949, probó su primera arma nuclear; la de Hidrógeno, en 1953; y en 1955 su primer megatón. Francia dispuso de su primera arma nuclear en 1960.

Eran solo tres los países que poseían el arma nuclear en 1957, cuando la ONU, bajo la égida yanki, creó la Organización Internacional de la Energía Atómica. ¿Imagina alguien que ese instrumento de Estados Unidos hizo algo por advertir al mundo los terribles riesgos a que expondría la sociedad humana cuando Israel, aliado incondicional de Estados Unidos y la OTAN, ubicado en pleno corazón de las más importantes reservas del mundo en petróleo y gas, se constituyera en peligrosa y agresiva potencia nuclear?

Sus fuerzas, en cooperación con las tropas coloniales inglesas y francesas, atacaron Port Said cuando Abdel Nasser nacionalizó el Canal de Suez, propiedad de Francia, lo que obligó al Primer Ministro soviético a transmitir un ultimátum exigiendo el cese de aquella agresión, que los aliados europeos de Estados Unidos no tuvieron otra alternativa que acatar.

On Sunday, November 6th, 72 hours ago, there was a general election in which Daniel Ortega and the FSLN of Nicaragua obtained an overwhelming victory.

As fate would have it, the other day marked the 94th anniversary of the glorious Soviet Socialist Revolution.  Unforgettable pages in history were written by Russian workers, peasants and soldiers and the name of Lenin shall always be shining among men and women who dream of a just future for humankind.

These topics are ever more complicated and the efforts poured into educating the new generations shall never suffice. Therefore, today I dedicate some time to comment on this event, in the midst of so many occurring on a daily basis on our planet and the news of which arrives by a growing number of channels that were barely imaginable just a few decades ago.

I must say that the Nicaraguan election was held in a traditional and bourgeois style, having nothing fair or equitable about it, since the sectors of the oligarchy who have an anti-national and pro-imperialist character have, as a norm, the monopoly on economic and publicity resources which, generally speaking, and in a special way on our hemisphere, are at the service of the political and military interests of the empire; all that underlines the magnitude of the Sandinista victory.

It is a truth that our Homeland knows well from the time Marti died at Dos Ríos on May 19 of 1895, to “timely prevent, with the independence of Cuba, that the United States could expand over the Antilles and fall  with additional  force over  our  American lands”.

We shall never tire in repeating it, especially after our people have been able to steadfastly stand up to half a century of sustained economic blockade and the most brutal aggressions of that empire.

However it is not hatred that moves our people; it is ideas. From these ideas our solidarity with the people of Sandino, the general of free men, was born; we read about him with admiration when, more than 60 years ago, we were university students and without the marvellous cultural outlook of those who, in a few days and along with the students in secondary education, shall be taking part in something that by now is a beautiful tradition: the University Festival of Books and Reading.

The heroic death of the Nicaraguan hero who fought against the Yankee occupation forces in his territory was always a source of inspiration for Cuban revolutionaries.  Our solidarity with the Nicaraguan people is not surprising; it was expressed from the very first days of the revolutionary triumph in Cuba on January 1st of 1959.

Yesterday, on the 8th, the newspaper Granma was reminding us of the heroic fall in November of 1976, just two and a half years before the triumph, of the founder of the FSLN, Carlos Fonseca Amador, “tayacán[1] victor over death”, as the lovely song written in his memory “sweetheart of the Red-Black Homeland, all of Nicaragua shouts ‘Present!’”.

I know Daniel well; he never adopted extremist positions and was always invariably faithful to basic principles.  Given the responsibility of the presidency on the basis of a group political directorship, he was characterized by his respectful conduct in terms of the points of view of his comrades coming from within the Sandinista movement at a determinate stage in the struggle before the triumph.  He thus became a unifying factor among the revolutionaries and sustained contacts with the people.  This was due to the great ascendancy he acquired among the more humble sectors of Nicaragua.

The depth of the Sandinista Revolution earned him the hatred of the Nicaraguan oligarchy and Yankee imperialism.

The most atrocious crimes were perpetrated against his country and his people in the Dirty War that Reagan and Bush promoted from the presidency and the CIA.

Many counter-revolutionary gangs were organized, trained and supplied by them; drug trafficking became the instrument for funding the counter-revolution and tens of thousands of weapons brought into the country caused the death or injury of thousands of Nicaraguans.

The Sandinistas held elections in the midst of that unequal and unfair battle.

The fall of the Socialist bloc is added to this situation, along with the imminent collapse of the USSR and the beginning of the Special Period in our Homeland.  Such difficult circumstances and despite the support of the majority of the Nicaraguan people, expressed in every opinion survey, made an electoral victory impossible.

The Nicaraguan people were forced to once more put up with almost 17 years of corrupt and pro-imperialist governments.  The rates of health, literacy and social justice installed in Nicaragua began to painfully go downhill.  Nevertheless, the Sandinista revolutionaries, under Daniel’s leadership, continued their fight throughout those long, bitter years and again the people recovered the government even though it was in greatly difficult conditions that demanded a maximum of experience and political wisdom.

Cuba was continuing under the brutal Yankee blockade and suffering, moreover, the rough consequences of the Special Period and the hostility of one of the worst murderers that has governed the United States, George W. Bush, son of the father who had promoted the Dirty War in Nicaragua, freedom for the terrorist Posada Carriles to distribute weapons to the Nicaraguan counter-revolutionaries and reprieved Orlando Bosch who was the other author of the Barbados Crime.

However, a new phase was beginning in Our America with the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela and the coming to power in Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay of governments committed to the independence and integration of Latin American peoples.

Furthermore, I can state with satisfaction that the solidarity of Cuba with the country of Sandino never ceased in the field of political and social solidarity.  I must point out with total fairness that Nicaragua was one of the countries that best used Cuba’s cooperation in health and education.

The thousands of doctors who have provided their services in that heroic sister country feel really motivated by the excellent use the Sandinistas made of their efforts.  The same can be asserted about the thousands of teachers who, during one day in the first phase of the process, were sent into the most remote mountain areas to teach the peasants to read and write. Today the education experiences in general and especially the practices of teaching medicine coming from the Latin American School of Medicine where thousands of excellent doctors have been trained have been transferred to Nicaragua.  Such realities constitute an excellent stimulus for our people.

These details I am mentioning are nothing more than an example of the prolific effort of the Sandinista revolutionaries in favour of the development of their Homeland.

The fundamental nature of Daniel’s role and the reason for my opinion about his overwhelming victory is that he never distanced himself from contact with the people and the never-ending struggle for their well-being.

 Today he is a truly experienced leader who has been capable of handling complicated and difficult situations from the years when his country was once more under the aegis of rapacious capitalism. He knows how to intelligently handle complex problems; he knows what he can and cannot do, what he should and should not do in order to ensure peace and the sustained advance of the economic and social development of the country. He is very much aware of the fact that he owes the overwhelming victory to his heroic and courageous people, because of their broad participation and almost two-thirds of the votes cast in his favour.  He was able to establish close ties with the workers, peasants, students, young people, women, technicians, professionals, artists and all progressive sectors and forces that sustain and carry out the advances made in the country.  In my opinion, it is very right to call on all the democratic political forces willing to work for independence and the economic and social development of the country.

In today’s world, problems are extremely complicated and difficult.  But while the world exists, we, the small countries, can and must exercise our right for independence, cooperation, development and peace.

La Aplastante Victoria de Daniel e el FSLN

Hace 72 horas, el domingo 6 de noviembre hubo una elección general, en la que Daniel Ortega y el FSLN de Nicaragua obtuvieron una aplastante victoria.

Quiso el azar, que al otro día se cumpliera el 94 aniversario de la gloriosa Revolución Socialista Soviética. Páginas imborrables de la historia fueron escritas por obreros, campesinos y soldados rusos, y el nombre de Lenin brillará siempre entre los hombres y mujeres que sueñan con un destino justo para la humanidad.

Estos temas que son cada vez más complejos, y nunca serán suficientes los esfuerzos que se inviertan para educar a las nuevas generaciones. Dedico hoy por ello, un espacio para comentar este hecho, en medio de tantos que ocurren diariamente en el planeta y de los que llegan noticias por un número creciente de vías apenas imaginadas hace unas décadas.

Debo decir que las elecciones en Nicaragua fueron al estilo tradicional y burgués, que nada tiene de justo o equitativo, ya que los sectores oligárquicos, de carácter antinacional y proimperialistas disponen como norma del monopolio de los recursos económicos y publicitarios, que en general, y de modo especial en nuestro hemisferio, están al servicio de los intereses políticos y militares del imperio, lo cual resalta la magnitud de la victoria sandinista.

Es una verdad que se conoce bien en nuestra Patria desde que Martí cayó en Dos Ríos, el 19 de mayo de 1895, para “impedir a tiempo con la independencia de Cuba que se extiendan por las Antillas los Estados Unidos y caigan, con esa fuerza más, sobre nuestras tierras de América”. No nos cansaremos nunca de repetirlo, especialmente después que nuestro pueblo ha sido capaz de soportar duramente medio siglo de bloqueo económico sostenido y las más brutales agresiones de ese imperio.

No es sin embargo el odio lo que mueve a nuestro pueblo, son las ideas. De ellas nació nuestra solidaridad con el pueblo de Sandino, el General de hombres libres, cuyos hechos leíamos con admiración, cuando hace ya más de 60 años éramos estudiantes universitarios y sin las maravillosas perspectivas culturales de los que dentro de pocos días, junto a los de la enseñanza media, participarán en lo que ya es hermosa tradición: el Festival Universitario del Libro y la Lectura.

La muerte heroica del héroe nicaragüense, que luchó contra los ocupantes yankis de su territorio, fue siempre una fuente de inspiración para los revolucionarios cubanos. Nada tiene de extraño, nuestra solidaridad con el pueblo nicaragüense, expresada desde los primeros días del triunfo revolucionario en Cuba, el 1º de Enero de 1959.

El diario Granma nos recordaba ayer día 8 la caída heroica en noviembre de 1976, apenas dos años y medio antes del triunfo, del fundador del FSLN Carlos Fonseca Amador, “tayacán vencedor de la muerte”, como dice una bella canción escrita en su memoria “novio de la Patria Rojinegra, Nicaragua entera te grita presente”.

A Daniel lo conozco bien; nunca adoptó posiciones extremistas y fue siempre invariablemente fiel a principios básicos. Responsabilizado con la Presidencia a partir de una dirección política colegiada, se caracterizó por su conducta respetuosa ante los puntos de vista de los compañeros de tendencias surgidas dentro del Sandinismo en determinada etapa de la lucha antes del triunfo. Se convirtió así en un factor de unidad entre los revolucionarios y sostuvo constantes contactos con el pueblo. A eso se debió la gran ascendencia que adquirió entre los sectores más humildes de Nicaragua.

La profundidad de la Revolución Sandinista le ganó el odio de la oligarquía nicaragüense y el imperialismo yanki.

Los crímenes más atroces se llevaron a cabo contra su país y su pueblo, en la guerra sucia que Reagan y Bush promovieron desde la presidencia y la Agencia Central de Inteligencia.

Numerosas bandas contrarrevolucionarias fueron organizadas, entrenadas y suministradas por ellos; el tráfico de drogas se convirtió en instrumento de financiación de la contrarrevolución y decenas de miles de armas introducidas en el país ocasionaron la muerte o la mutilación de miles de nicaragüenses.

Los sandinistas mantuvieron las elecciones en medio de aquella desigual e injusta batalla.

A esta situación se añadió el derrumbe del campo socialista, la inminente desintegración de la URSS y el inicio del Periodo Especial en nuestra Patria. En tan difíciles circunstancias y a pesar del apoyo mayoritario del pueblo nicaragüense, expresado en todos los sondeos de opinión, se hizo imposible una elección victoriosa.  

 El pueblo nicaragüense se vio obligado a soportar nuevamente casi 17 años de gobiernos corrompidos y proimperialistas. Los índices de salud, alfabetización y justicia social instaurados en Nicaragua, comenzaron a descender dolorosamente. No obstante, los revolucionarios sandinistas bajo la dirección de Daniel continuaron su lucha a lo largo de aquellos amargos años, y de nuevo el pueblo recuperó el gobierno, aunque en condiciones sumamente difíciles que exigían el máximo de experiencia y sabiduría política.

Cuba continuaba bajo el brutal bloqueo yanki, sufriendo además las duras consecuencias del Periodo Especial y la hostilidad de uno de los peores asesinos que ha gobernado a Estados Unidos, George W. Bush, el hijo del padre que había promovido la guerra sucia en Nicaragua, la libertad del terrorista Posada Carriles para distribuir armas entre los contrarrevolucionarios de Nicaragua e indultó a Orlando Bosch, el otro autor del Crimen de Barbados.

Una nueva etapa se iniciaba sin embargo en nuestra América con la Revolución Bolivariana en Venezuela y el ascenso al poder en Ecuador, Bolivia, Brasil, Uruguay, Argentina y Paraguay, de gobiernos comprometidos con la independencia y la integración de los pueblos latinoamericanos.

Con satisfacción puedo afirmar además, que la solidaridad de Cuba con la patria de Sandino jamás cesó en el campo de la solidaridad política y social. Debo señalar con toda justicia que Nicaragua fue de los países que mejor utilizó la colaboración de Cuba en la salud y la educación.

Los miles de médicos que han prestado sus servicios en ese heroico país hermano, se sienten realmente estimulados por el excelente uso y el empleo que los sandinistas han dado a sus esfuerzos. Lo mismo puede afirmarse con relación a los miles de maestros que un día en la primera fase del proceso mandaron a las más apartadas montañas para enseñar a leer y escribir a los campesinos. Hoy las experiencias educativas en general, y de modo especial las prácticas de la enseñanza médica derivadas de la Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina, donde se forman miles de excelentes médicos, han sido trasladadas a Nicaragua. Tales realidades constituyen un excelente estímulo para nuestro pueblo.

Estos detalles que menciono no constituyen más que un ejemplo del fecundo esfuerzo de los revolucionarios sandinistas en pro del desarrollo de su Patria.

Lo fundamental del papel de Daniel y la razón a mi juicio de su aplastante victoria, es que nunca se apartó de los contactos con el pueblo y la incesante lucha por su bienestar.

 Es hoy un líder verdaderamente experimentado que fue capaz de manejar situaciones complejas y difíciles a partir de los años en que su país estuvo de nuevo bajo la égida del capitalismo rapaz. Sabe manejar problemas complicados de forma inteligente, lo que puede o no puede, lo que debe o no debe hacer para garantizar la paz y el avance sostenido del desarrollo económico y social del país. Conoce muy bien que a su pueblo heroico y valiente debe la arrolladora victoria, por su amplia participación y casi dos tercios de los votos a su favor. Fue capaz de vincularse estrechamente con los obreros, los campesinos, los estudiantes, los jóvenes, las mujeres, los técnicos, los profesionales, los artistas y todos los sectores y fuerzas progresistas que sostienen y hacen avanzar al país. Es a mi criterio muy correcto el llamamiento a todas las fuerzas políticas democráticas dispuestas a trabajar por la independencia y el desarrollo económico y social del país.

 En el mundo actual los problemas son sumamente complejos y difíciles. Pero mientras el mundo exista los países pequeños podemos y debemos ejercer nuestros derechos a la independencia, la cooperación, el desarrollo y la paz.

Tomorrow the G-20 Meeting begins, that is the meeting of the most developed and wealthy countries on the planet: the United States, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and the European Union as a separate entity but with the right to participate; they are the fundamental bastions of NATO plus its allies Japan, South Korea, Australia and Turkey in its double aspect of developing country and NATO member, just as Saudi Arabia – a gigantic reservoir of light oil in the hands of western transnationals, extracting from it 9.4 million barrels a day, whose value at current prices totals one billion   dollars per day – on one side of the table, and on the other, a group of countries having growing economic and political clout who, as a matter of fact, because of the number of inhabitants and natural resources, are becoming an expression of the interests of the majority of our long-suffering and pillaged world: the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, India, Indonesia, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.

Spain, also a NATO ally, is just a “Guest Country”.

We are talking about a meeting among the great producers of industrial machinery and articles and of the great suppliers of raw materials that, over half a millennium following the Conquest, were European colonies and in the past century supplied them with agricultural products, minerals and energy resources, victims of a pitiless unequal exchange.

This dark period in history has been going on since the descendants of the Barbarian tribes populating Europe “discovered” and conquered this hemisphere, armed with swords, cross-bows and harquebuses.

 “The discoverers”, so covered with excuses by the so-called western world, as if a part of humanity hadn’t been living on the continent for 40 million years, harboured the aim of seeking a shorter trade route to China.

In that country, with which they had antecedents via the silk merchants and merchants of other products prized by the aristocracy and burgeoning European bourgeoisie, they had found a fabulous civilization having a written language, refined arts, agriculture, metals, gunpowder and advanced principles of political and military organization, including armies with tens or perhaps thousands of cavalry.

They were on the point of capsizing when they sighted land, in the vicinity of Cuba. A short while later Columbus took possession of our island in the name of the King of Spain. Would he have been able to do that had he actually landed in China, as he had proposed? His error cost this hemisphere tens of millions of lives that were lost as consequence of the partitioning of the Americas by the Papal Bull between the two kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula, and in the constant conflicts among the medieval nobility.

The Conquest and the search for gold and silver, as the genial native painter Oswaldo Guayasamín pointed out, cost 70 million lives of those living in the hemisphere, birthplace of important civilizations.

Black Africa can also speak about what that Conquest meant for millions of its children, ripped away and sold as slaves in this hemisphere.

The multi-million-dollar oligarchy, whose Heads of State or Government will be meeting in Cannes with the representatives of almost 6 billion inhabitants that aspire to a decent existence for their peoples, should meditate on these realities.

Those countries would like to monopolize technologies and markets through patents, banks, the most modern and costly transportation means, cybernetic supremacy over complex production processes, control of communications and the mass media in order to dupe the world.    

Now that the inhabitants of the world number 7 billion, the states representing only one out of seven persons, who, judging by the massive protests in Europe and the United States, are not very happy, put the survival of our species at risk.

Could anyone forget that the US was the country that impeded the Kyoto Agreement when we had a little more time to prevent a catastrophe with the climate change that is being produced as we watch?

On the 28th and 29th of October past, another meeting of Heads of State and Governments took place: the community of Ibero-American countries. Among the calamities that the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking peoples have had to put up with is the fact that they are the region in the world with the most inequalities in terms of the distribution of their wealth.

Cuba’s Chancellor Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla travelled from the UN meeting in New York on the blockade of Cuba to the capital of Paraguay where that second meeting was being held. There, highly interesting things were being said about the crisis that is sweeping over the European Community.

The new prime minister of Portugal poured out his bitterness with the European Union when he declared that it has become exhausted and without funds with the record rescue of Greece.  It could face up to a crisis in Portugal but it would be bankrupt, unable to aid Italy, the seventh world economy, and this would drag down France whose banks hold the greatest part of the Italian debt.

The Iberian leaders doubt that the commitment assumed with Greece would be fulfilled and if it is not fulfilled they predict a longer crisis than that of 1929.

This morning, the news dispatches inform about the drastic consequences of the never-before-seen rainfall in Thailand, the major rice exporter whose sales will be reduced from 25 million tons to 19.

In contrast, news about China increasing its production of metal copper to almost 5 million tons caused considerable effect.

However, while the US keeps intact its veto power at the International Monetary Fund, China is being denied the simple right of approving the Yuan as convertible currency in that body.  How long will that tyranny prevail?

It is through this looking-glass that we must analyse every single word that is spoken at the G-20 Summit.

La Reunión del G-20

Mañana comienza la reunión del G-20, es decir, la de los países más desarrollados y ricos del planeta: Estados Unidos, Canadá, Alemania, Gran Bretaña, Francia, Italia, y la Unión Europea como entidad aparte con derecho a participar; son los baluartes fundamentales de la OTAN más sus aliados Japón, Corea del Sur, Australia y Turquía en su doble aspecto de país en desarrollo y miembro de la OTAN, así como Arabia Saudita ―un gigantesco depósito de petróleo ligero en manos de las transnacionales de occidente, que extraen de allí 9,4 millones de barriles diarios, cuyo valor al precio actual asciende a mil millones de dólares cada día― en un lado de la mesa, y en el otro, un grupo de países con creciente peso económico y político, que de hecho se convierten, por el número de sus habitantes y sus recursos naturales, en una expresión de los intereses de la mayoría de nuestro sufrido y saqueado mundo: la República Popular China, la Federación Rusa, India, Indonesia, Sudáfrica, Brasil, Argentina y México.

España, también aliado de la OTAN, es solo “país invitado”.

Se trata de una reunión entre los grandes productores de maquinarias y artículos industriales y los grandes suministradores de materias primas que a lo largo de medio milenio después de la conquista, fueron colonias europeas y en el último siglo los abastecían de productos agrícolas, minerales y recursos  energéticos, víctimas de un despiadado intercambio desigual.

Este oscuro período de la historia viene ocurriendo desde que los descendientes de las tribus bárbaras que poblaron a Europa, “descubrieron” y conquistaron este hemisferio armados de espadas, ballestas y arcabuces.

“Los descubridores”, tan apologetizados por el llamado mundo occidental, como si en el continente no viviera una parte de la humanidad desde hacía 40 mil años, albergaban el propósito de buscar una ruta más corta para el comercio con China.

En aquel país, del cual poseían antecedentes a través de los comerciantes de seda y otros valiosos productos apetecidos por la aristocracia y la naciente burguesía europea, habrían encontrado una fabulosa civilización poseedora de lenguaje escrito, arte refinado, agricultura, metales, pólvora y avanzados principios de organización política y militar, incluidos ejércitos con decenas o tal vez cientos de miles de soldados de caballería.

A punto estaban de zozobrar cuando en las proximidades de Cuba, encontraron tierra. Poco después Colón tomó posesión de nuestra isla en nombre del Rey de España. ¿Habría podido hacer eso si realmente llega a China, como era su propósito? Su error costó a este hemisferio decenas de millones de vidas que se perdieron como consecuencia del reparto de América, en virtud de una bula papal entre dos reinos de la península Ibérica, en los constantes conflictos de su nobleza medieval.

La conquista y la búsqueda de oro y plata costó, como señalaba el genial pintor indio Oswaldo Guayasamín, 70 millones de vidas a los que habitaban el hemisferio, cuna de importantes civilizaciones.

África negra también puede hablar de lo que significó aquella conquista para millones de sus hijos, arrancados y vendidos como esclavos en este hemisferio.

La oligarquía multimillonaria, cuyos Jefes de Estados o Gobiernos se reunirán en Cannes con los representantes de casi 6 mil millones de habitantes que aspiran a una existencia digna para sus pueblos, debieran meditar sobre estas realidades.

Aquellos países pretenden monopolizar las tecnologías y los mercados a través de las patentes, los bancos, los medios más modernos y costosos de transporte, el dominio cibernético de los procesos productivos complejos, el control de las comunicaciones y de los medios masivos de información para engañar al mundo.

Ahora que los habitantes del planeta suman 7 mil millones, los estados que representan solo a una de cada siete personas, las cuales a juzgar por las protestas masivas en Europa y Estados Unidos no están muy felices, ponen en riesgo la supervivencia de nuestra especie.

¿Podría alguien olvidar que Estados Unidos fue el país que impidió el Acuerdo de Kyoto cuando se disponía de un poco más de tiempo para impedir una catástrofe con el cambio climático que se está produciendo a ojos vista?

Los días 28 y 29 del mes de octubre que acaba de transcurrir, tuvo lugar otra reunión de Jefes de Estados y Gobiernos que integran la Comunidad de Países Iberoamericanos. Entre las calamidades que han tenido que soportar los pueblos de habla española y portuguesa, está el hecho de ser la región del mundo con más desigualdad en la distribución de las riquezas.

El canciller de Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla viajó de la reunión de la ONU en Nueva York sobre el bloqueo a Cuba, a la capital de Paraguay, donde esta se efectuó. Allí se dijeron cosas de sumo interés con relación a la crisis que sacude a la Comunidad Europea.

El nuevo Primer Ministro de Portugal vertió su amargura con la Unión Europea, cuando afirmó que esta quedó exhausta y desfondada con el rescate de magnitud récord destinado a Grecia. Podría enfrentar una crisis en Portugal pero quedaría en bancarrota, imposibilitada de socorrer a Italia, la séptima economía mundial, lo que arrastraría a Francia, en cuyos bancos se acumula la mayor parte de la deuda italiana.   

Los líderes ibéricos dudan de que el compromiso asumido con Grecia se cumpla y de no cumplirse auguran una crisis más prolongada que la de 1929.

Esta mañana los cables informaban de las duras consecuencias de las lluvias nunca vistas en Tailandia, el mayor exportador de arroz, cuyas ventas se reducirán de 25 millones de toneladas a 19.

En cambio, noticias de que China incrementaba a casi 5 millones de toneladas la producción de cobre metálico, surtió efectos considerables.

Sin embargo, mientras Estados Unidos conserva intacto el poder de veto en el Fondo Monetario Internacional, a China se le niega en ese organismo el simple derecho de aprobar al Yuan como moneda convertible. ¿Cuánto tiempo durará esa tiranía?

Es a través de ese cristal que debemos analizar cada palabra que se pronuncie en la Cumbre del G-20.

On March 9th this year, under the title of “NATO, War, Lies and Business”, I published a new Reflection about the role of that warlike organization.

I am selecting some fundamental paragraphs from that Reflection:

“As some may be aware, in September of 1969, Muammar al-Gaddafi, an Arab Bedouin soldier of a peculiar character and inspired by the ideas of the Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, promoted in the heart of the armed forces a movement overthrowing King Idris I of Libya, a country almost completely covered by desert and having very little population, located in northern Africa between Tunisia and Egypt.”

“Born to a tribal Bedouin family of nomadic desert shepherds in the region of Tripoli, Gaddafi was profoundly anti-colonialist. ”

“…Even Gaddafi’s adversaries assure us that he stood out for his intelligence as a student; he was expelled from high-school for his anti-monarchic activities.  He managed to enrol in another high-school and later graduated in law at the University of Benghazi at the age of 21.  Then he enrolled in the Benghazi Military College where he created what was called the Secret Unionist Movement of Free Officers, concluding his education later on in a British military academy.”

“He had begun his political life with events that were without question, revolutionary.

“In March of 1970, after massive nationalist demonstrations, he managed to have British soldiers evacuated from the country and in June, the United States vacated the great air base near Tripoli, handing it over to military instructors from Egypt, a Libyan ally.

“In 1970, several western oil companies and banking companies having the participation of foreign capital were affected by the Revolution.  At the end of 1971, the famous British Petroleum  had the same fate. In the agricultural sector, all Italian properties were confiscated, and the colonists and their descendents were expelled from Libya.”

“The Libyan leader got involved in extremist theories that were opposed both to communism and capitalism. It was a stage when Gaddafi dedicated himself to theorizing, something that doesn’t have any place in this  analysis, other than to point out that the first article of the Constitutional Proclamation of 1969 established the “Socialist” nature of the Great Socialist People’s Libya Arab Jamahiriya.

“What I wish to emphasize is that the United States and its allies were never interested in human rights.

“The hornet’s nest taking place in the Security Council, at the meeting of the Human Rights Council at the Geneva headquarters and in the UN General Assembly in New York was pure theatre.”

“The empire now wants […] to intervene militarily in Libya and strike a blow at the revolutionary wave unleashed in the Arab world.  Up to now, not one word was said; they kept their mouths shut and carried on with business.”

“With the latent Libyan rebellion being promoted by Yankee intelligence, or by Gaddafi’s own errors, it is important that the people don’t let themselves be deceived, since very soon world opinion shall have enough elements to know what to expect.”

“Like many Third World countries, Libya is a member of NAM, the Group of 77 and other international organizations, through which relations are established separately from its economic and social system.

“As an outline: the Revolution in Cuba, inspired by Marxist-Leninist principles and those of Marti, had triumphed in 1959, 90 miles away from the United States which imposed on us the Platt Amendment and owned the economy of our country.

“Almost immediately, the empire promoted the dirty war against our people, counter-revolutionary gangs, the criminal economic blockade, the mercenary invasion of the Bay of Pigs, watched over by an aircraft carrier and their Marines ready to land if the mercenaries were to gain determinate objectives.”

“All the Latin American countries, with the exception of Mexico, took part in the criminal blockade which is still in place today, with our country never surrendering.”

“In January of 1986, using the idea that Libya was behind the so-called revolutionary terrorism, Reagan ordered economic and commercial relations with that country to be broken.

“In March, a force of aircraft carriers in the Gulf of Sidra, inside what is considered to be Libyan national waters, launched attacks that caused the destruction of several naval units armed with missile launchers and coastal radar systems that that country had acquired in the USSR.

“On April 5th, a Berlin disco that US soldiers went to was the victim of plastic explosives; three persons died, two of them American soldiers, and many were wounded.

“Reagan accused Gaddafi and ordered the Air Force to retaliate. Three squadrons took off from the Sixth Fleet aircraft carriers and bases in the United Kingdom, attacking seven military targets in Tripoli and Benghazi with missiles and bombs. Around 40 people died, 15 of them civilians.  Warned of the bombers’ advance, Gaddafi assembled his family and was abandoning his residence located at the Bab Al Aziziya military complex to the south of the capital. The evacuation was in progress when a missile made a direct hit on his residence; his daughter Hanna died and two other children were wounded. The occurrence was broadly condemned: the UN General Assembly passed a resolution condemning violation of the UN Charter and International law.  So did NAM, the Arab League and the OAU, in energetic terms.

“On December 21, 1988, a Pan Am Boeing 747 flying from London to New York disintegrated in mid-air after a bomb exploded …”

“According to the Yankees, investigations implicated two Libyan intelligence agents.”

“A sinister legend was fabricated against him with the participation of Reagan and Bush Sr.”

“The Security Council had imposed sanctions on Libya that were starting to be overcome when Gaddafi accepted to put the two people accused for the plane downed over Scotland on trial, with certain conditions.

“Libyan delegations began to be invited to inter-European meetings.  In July of 1999, London initiated the re-establishing of full diplomatic relations with Libya, after some additional concessions.”

“On December 2nd, Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema of Italy made the first visit of a European head of government to Libya.

“With the USSR and the European Socialist bloc gone, Gaddafi decided to accept the demands of the United States and NATO.”

“At the beginning of 2002, the State Department informed that diplomatic talks were going on between the US and Libya.”

“As 2003 began, because of the economic agreement on the compensations reached between Libya and the suing countries, the United Kingdom and France, the UN Security Council lifted the 1992 sanctions against Libya.

“Before 2003 drew to a close, Bush and Tony Blair informed about an agreement with Libya, a country that had handed over to United Kingdom and Washington intelligence experts documentation on the non-conventional weapons programs such as ballistic missiles with a range of more than 300 kilometres. Officials from both countries had already visited various installations.  It was the result of many months of talks between Tripoli and Washington as Bush himself revealed.

“Gaddafi fulfilled his promises of disarmament.  In a few months Libya handed over five units of Scud-C missiles with a range of 800 kilometres and the hundreds of Scud-Bs whose range surpassed the 300 kilometres for short-range defensive missiles.

“From October of 2002, the marathon of visits to Tripoli began: Berlusconi in October of 2002; José María Aznar in September of 2003; Berlusconi again in February, August and October of 2004; Blair in March of 2004; Germany’s Schröeder in October of that year; Jacques Chirac in November of 2004.”

“Gaddafi triumphantly toured Europe. He was received in Brussels in April of 2004 by Romano Prodi, president of the European Commission; in August of that year the Libyan leader invited Bush to visit his country; Exxon Mobil, Chevron Texaco and Conoco Philips finalized the re-establishing of extracting crude by means of joint ventures.

“In May of 2006, the United States announced the withdrawal of Libya from the list of terrorist countries and the establishment of full diplomatic relations.

“In 2006 and 2007, France and the US signed agreements for nuclear cooperation for peaceful purposes; in May of 2007, Blair once again visited Gaddafi at Sidra.  BP signed an “enormously important” agreement according to statements, in order to explore for gas fields.

“In December of 2007, Gaddafi made two visits to France and signed contracts for military and civilian equipment for the total of 10 billion Euros; and a visit to Spain where he met with President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. Million-dollar contracts were signed with important NATO countries.

“What is it that has now caused the precipitated withdrawal from the embassies of the United States and the other NATO members?

“It’s all extremely odd.

“George W. Bush, father of the stupid anti-terrorism war, stated on September 20 of 2001 to the West point cadets that:

“Our security will require [...]  transforming the military you will lead, a military that must be ready to strike at a moment of notice in any dark corner of the world.  And our security will require all Americans to be forward-looking and resolute, to be ready for preemptive action when necessary to defend our liberty [...].”

“We must uncover terror cells in 60 or more countries[...] Along with our friends and allies, we must oppose proliferation and confront regimes that sponsor terror, as each case requires.”

Today I add that Afghanistan, a traditionally rebellious country, was invaded; the nationalist tribes, former allies of the United States in its struggle against the USSR, were bombed and massacred.  The Dirty War spread throughout the world.  Iraq was invaded under excuses that turned out to be false, its abundant oil resources were handed over to the hands of Yankee companies, millions of persons lost their jobs and were forced to move both inside the country and abroad, their museums were sacked and innumerable citizens lost their lives or were massacred by the invaders.

Returning to the Reflection, I pointed out:

“An AFP dispatch from Kabul, dated today on March 9th, reveals that: “Last year was the most deadly for civilians in nine years of war between the Taliban and international forces in Afghanistan, with almost 2,800 dead, 15% more than in 2009, a UN report indicated on Wednesday, underlining the human cost of the conflict for the population.”

“With exactly 2,777 the number of civilian deaths in 2010 increased 15% as compared to 2009, indicates the annual joint report by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan...”

“President Barack Obama stated on the 3rd of March his "profound condolences" to the Afghan people for the nine dead children; US General David Petraeus, commander in chief of the ISAF and Secretary of the Defence Robert Gates made similar statements.”

“…the UNAMA report emphasizes that the number of civilian dead in 2010 is four times greater than the number of international forces soldiers killed in combat in that same year.

Referring to Libya, I indicated:

“For 10 days, in Geneva and in the UN more than 150 speeches were made about violations on human rights that were repeated millions of times by TV, radio, Internet and the printed press.

“Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez, in his speech on March 1st before the Foreign Ministers meeting in Geneva, stated: 

“Human conscience rejects the deaths of innocent people in any circumstance and in any place.  Cuba fully shares world concern for the losses in civilian lives in Libya and wishes that their people attain a peaceful and sovereign solution to the civil war happening over there, without any foreign interference, and ensuring the integrity of that nation.”

“If essential human rights are a right of life, is the Council ready to suspend the membership of states that unleash war?”

“Will it suspend states that finance and supply military aid used by the receiving state in massive, flagrant and systematic violations on human rights and in attacks on civilian populations, such as what is happening in Palestine?”

“Will it apply that measure against powerful countries that carry out extra-judicial executions on the territory of other states, using high technology such as smart bombs and unmanned planes? 

“What would happen with states that accept on their territory illegal secret prisons, facilitate secret flights carrying kidnapped persons or participate in acts of torture?”

“We are against the internal war in Libya, in favour of immediate peace and full respect for life and the rights of all citizens, with no foreign intervention that would only serve to prolong the conflict and NATO interests.”

Yesterday, on October 31st, an event was produced that, among others, bears witness to the total lack of ethics in Yankee policy.

UNESCO had just adopted a courageous decision: to grant the heroic people of Palestine the right to participate as an active member of UNESCO; 107 states voted in favour, 14 were opposed and 52 abstained from voting.  We all know the reason perfectly well.

The United States representative to that institution, following instructions from the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, immediately stated that as of that moment, their country would be suspending all economic aid to the organization that was destined by the UN for education, science and culture.

The dramatic tone with which the lady announced the decision was totally unnecessary. Nobody was surprised by the expected and cynical decision.

Moreover, as if it were not enough, all we need to do is read the AFP cable dated in Washington this afternoon at 16:05:

“‘After the G20 Summit (...) the president (Obama) and President  Sarkozy will take part in a ceremony in Cannes to celebrate the US-France alliance’, the office of the US president indicated, adding that the leaders would also be meeting with ‘US and French soldiers who had participated together in the operation’ in Libya.”

El Papel Genocida de la OTAN - Quinta parte

El 9 de marzo del año actual bajo el título “La OTAN, la guerra, la mentira y los negocios” publiqué una nueva Reflexión sobre el papel de esa organización bélica.

Selecciono los párrafos fundamentales de aquella Reflexión:

“Como algunos conocen, en septiembre de 1969, Muammar Al-Gaddafi, un militar árabe beduino de peculiar carácter e inspirado en las ideas del líder egipcio Gamal Abdel Nasser, promovió en el seno de las Fuerzas Armadas un movimiento que derrocó al Rey Idris I de Libia, un país desértico casi en su totalidad y de escasa población, situado al norte de África, entre Túnez y Egipto.”

“En 1970, varias compañías petroleras occidentales y sociedades bancarias con participación de capitales extranjeros fueron afectadas por la Revolución. A fines de 1971, la famosa British Petroleum corrió la misma suerte. En el área agropecuaria todos los bienes italianos fueron confiscados, los colonos y sus descendientes expulsados de Libia.”

“El líder libio se enfrascó en teorías extremistas que se oponían tanto al comunismo como al capitalismo. Fue una etapa en la que Gaddafi se dedicó a la teorización, que no tiene sentido incluir en este análisis, aunque sí señalar que en el artículo primero de la Proclama Constitucional de 1969 se establecía el carácter “Socialista” de la Jamahiriya Árabe Libia Popular.

“Lo que deseo enfatizar es que a Estados Unidos y sus aliados de la OTAN nunca le interesaron los derechos humanos.

“La olla de grillos que tuvo lugar en el Consejo de Seguridad, en la reunión del Consejo de Derechos Humanos con sede en Ginebra, y en la Asamblea General de la ONU en Nueva York, fue puro teatro.”

“El imperio pretende ahora […] intervenir militarmente en Libia y golpear la ola revolucionaria desatada en el mundo árabe.”

“Promovida la latente rebeldía libia por los órganos de inteligencia yanki, o por los errores del propio Gaddafi, es importante que los pueblos no se dejen engañar, ya que muy pronto la opinión mundial tendrá suficientes elementos para saber a qué atenerse.”

“Libia, igual que muchos países del Tercer Mundo, es miembro del Movimiento de Países No Alineados, del Grupo de los 77 y otras organizaciones internacionales, a través de las cuales se establecen relaciones independientemente del sistema económico y social de cada Estado.

“A grandes rasgos: la Revolución en Cuba, inspirada en principios Marxistas-Leninistas y Martianos, había triunfado en 1959 a 90 millas de Estados Unidos, que nos impuso la Enmienda Platt y era propietario de la economía de nuestro país.

“Casi de inmediato, el imperio promovió contra nuestro pueblo la guerra sucia, las bandas contrarrevolucionarias, el criminal bloqueo económico, y la invasión mercenaria de Girón, custodiada por un portaaviones y su infantería de marina lista para desembarcar si la fuerza mercenaria obtenía determinados objetivos.”

“Todos los países latinoamericanos, con la excepción de México, participaron del criminal bloqueo que todavía perdura, sin que nuestro país jamás se rindiera.”

“En enero de 1986, esgrimiendo la idea de que Libia estaba detrás del llamado terrorismo revolucionario, Reagan ordenó romper relaciones económicas y comerciales con ese país.

“En marzo del año 1986, una fuerza de portaaviones en el Golfo de Sirte, dentro de aguas consideradas nacionales por Libia, desató ataques que ocasionaron la destrucción de varias unidades navales provistas de lanzamisiles y de sistemas de radares de costa que ese país había adquirido en la URSS.

“El 5 de abril, una discoteca en Berlín Occidental, frecuentada por soldados de Estados Unidos, fue víctima de explosivos plásticos, en el que tres personas murieron, dos de ellas militares norteamericanos y muchos fueron heridos.

“Reagan acusó a Gaddafi y ordenó a la Fuerza Aérea que diera respuesta. Tres escuadrones despegaron de los portaaviones de la VI Flota y bases en el Reino Unido, atacaron con misiles y bombas siete objetivos militares en Trípoli y Bengasi. Alrededor de 40 personas murieron, 15 de ellas civiles […] cuando un misil impactó directamente en la residencia (del líder libio), su hija Hanna murió y otros dos hijos resultaron heridos. El hecho recibió un amplio rechazo; la Asamblea General de la ONU aprobó una resolución de condena por violación de la Carta de la ONU y el Derecho Internacional. Igual hizo en términos enérgicos el Movimiento de Países No Alineados, la Liga Árabe y la OUA.

“El 21 de diciembre de 1988, un Boeing 747 de la compañía Pan Am que volaba de Londres a Nueva York se desintegró en pleno vuelo por el estallido de una bomba…”

“Las investigaciones, según los yankis, implicaban a dos agentes de la inteligencia Libia.”

“Una leyenda tenebrosa se fabricó contra él con la participación de Reagan y Bush padre.”

“El Consejo de Seguridad le había impuesto sanciones a Libia que comenzaron a superarse cuando Gaddafi aceptó someter a juicio, con determinadas condiciones, a los dos acusados por el avión que estalló sobre Escocia.

“Delegaciones libias comenzaron a ser invitadas a reuniones intereuropeas. En julio de 1999 Londres inició el restablecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas plenas con Libia, después de algunas concesiones adicionales.”

“El 2 de diciembre, Massimo D’Alema, primer ministro italiano, realizó la primera visita de un jefe de gobierno europeo a Libia.

“Desaparecida la URSS y el campo socialista de Europa, Gaddafi decidió aceptar las demandas de Estados Unidos y la OTAN.”

“A inicios del 2002, el Departamento de Estado informó que estaban en curso conversaciones diplomáticas entre Estados Unidos y Libia.”

“Al iniciarse el año 2003, en virtud del acuerdo económico sobre indemnizaciones alcanzado entre Libia y los países demandantes, Reino Unido y Francia, el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU levantó las sanciones de 1992 contra Libia.

“Antes de finalizar el 2003, Bush y Tony Blair informaron de un acuerdo con Libia, país que había entregado a expertos de inteligencia del Reino Unido y Washington documentación de los programas no convencionales de armas, así como misiles balísticos con un alcance superior a 300 kilómetros. […] Era el fruto de muchos meses de conversaciones entre Trípoli y Washington, como reveló el propio Bush.

“Gaddafi cumplió sus promesas de desarme. En pocos meses Libia entregó las cinco unidades de misiles Scud-C con un alcance de 800 kilómetros y los cientos de Scud-B, cuyo alcance sobrepasaba los 300 kilómetros en misiles defensivos de corto alcance.

“A partir de octubre de 2002 se inició el maratón de visitas a Trípoli: Berlusconi, en octubre de 2002; José María Aznar, en septiembre de 2003; Berlusconi de nuevo en febrero, agosto y octubre de 2004; Blair, en marzo de 2004; el alemán Schröeder, en octubre de ese año; Jacques Chirac, en noviembre de 2004.”

“Gaddafi recorrió triunfalmente Europa. Fue recibido en Bruselas en abril de 2004 por Romano Prodi, presidente de la Comisión Europea; en agosto de ese año el líder libio invitó a Bush a visitar su país; Exxon Mobil, Chevron Texaco y Conoco Philips ultimaban la reanudación de la extracción de crudo a través de joint ventures.

“En mayo de 2006, Estados Unidos anunció la retirada de Libia de la lista de países terroristas y el establecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas plenas.

“En 2006 y 2007, Francia y Estados Unidos suscribieron acuerdos de cooperación nuclear con fines pacíficos; en mayo de 2007, Blair volvió a visitar a Gaddafi en Sirte. British Petroleum firmó un contrato ‘enormemente importante’ según se declaró para la exploración de yacimientos de gas.

“En diciembre de 2007, Gaddafi realizó dos visitas a Francia y firmó contratos de equipamientos militares y civiles por valor de 10 000 millones de euros; y a España, donde se entrevistó con el presidente del Gobierno José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. Contratos millonarios se suscribieron con importantes países de la OTAN.

“¿Qué es lo que ahora ha originado la retirada precipitada de las embajadas de Estados Unidos y los demás miembros de la OTAN?

“Todo resulta sumamente extraño.

“George W. Bush, padre de la estúpida guerra antiterrorista, declaró el 20 de septiembre de 2001 a los cadetes de West Point ‘Nuestra seguridad requerirá […] la fuerza militar que ustedes dirigirán, una fuerza que debe estar lista para atacar inmediatamente en cualquier oscuro rincón del mundo. Y nuestra seguridad requerirá que estemos listos para el ataque preventivo cuando sea necesario defender nuestra libertad…’.”

“Debemos descubrir células terroristas en 60 países o más […] Junto a nuestros amigos y aliados, debemos oponernos a la proliferación y afrontar a los regímenes que patrocinan el terrorismo, según requiera cada caso.”

Añado hoy que Afganistán un país tradicionalmente rebelde, fue invadido; las tribus nacionalistas antaño aliadas de Estados Unidos en su lucha contra la URSS, fueron bombardeadas y masacradas. La guerra sucia se extendió por el mundo. Irak fue invadido con pretextos que resultaron falsos, sus abundantes recursos petroleros pasaron a manos de empresas yankis, millones de personas perdieron sus empleos y fueron obligadas a desplazarse dentro o fuera del país, sus museos fueron saqueados e incontables ciudadanos perdieron la vida o fueron masacrados por los invasores.

Volviendo a la Reflexión, señalé:

“Un despacho de la AFP procedente de Kabul […] revela que: ‘El año pasado fue el más letal para los civiles en nueve años de guerra entre los talibanes y las fuerzas internacionales en Afganistán, con casi 2 800 muertos, un 15% más que en 2009, indicó el miércoles un informe de la ONU, que subraya el costo humano del conflicto para la población’.”

“Con 2 777 exactamente, el número de civiles muertos en 2010 aumentó en 15% con respecto a 2009, indica el informe anual conjunto de la Misión de Asistencia de las Naciones Unidas en Afganistán….”

“El presidente Barack Obama expresó el 3 de marzo su 'profundo pesar' al pueblo afgano por los nueve niños muertos, y también lo hicieron el general estadounidense David Petraeus, comandante en jefe de la ISAF, y el secretario de Defensa, Robert Gates.”

“…el reporte de la UNAMA destaca que el número de civiles muertos en 2010 es cuatro veces superior a los soldados de las fuerzas internacionales caídos en combate en ese mismo año.”

En lo que se refiere a Libia, señalé:

“Durante 10 días, en Ginebra y en Naciones Unidas, se pronunciaron más de 150 discursos sobre violaciones de los derechos humanos que fueron repetidos millones de veces por televisión, radio, Internet y la prensa escrita.

“El Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, en su intervención del pasado 1º de marzo de 2011 ante los Ministros de Relaciones Exteriores reunidos en Ginebra, expresó:

“La conciencia humana rechaza la muerte de personas inocentes en cualquier circunstancia y lugar. Cuba comparte plenamente la preocupación mundial por las pérdidas de vidas de civiles en Libia y desea que su pueblo alcance una solución pacífica y soberana a la guerra civil que allí ocurre, sin ninguna injerencia extranjera, y que garantice la integridad de esa nación.”

“Si el derecho humano esencial es el derecho a la vida, ¿estará listo el Consejo para suspender la membresía de los Estados que desaten una guerra?

“¿Suspenderá a los Estados que financien y suministren ayuda militar empleada por el Estado receptor en violaciones masivas, flagrantes y sistemáticas de los derechos humanos y en ataques contra la población civil, como las que ocurren en Palestina?

“¿Aplicará esa medida contra países poderosos que realicen ejecuciones extrajudiciales en territorio de otros Estados con empleo de alta tecnología, como municiones inteligentes y aviones no tripulados?

“¿Qué ocurrirá con Estados que acepten en sus territorios cárceles ilegales secretas, faciliten el tránsito de vuelos secretos con personas secuestradas o participen de actos de tortura?”

“Estamos contra la guerra interna en Libia, a favor de la paz inmediata y el respeto pleno a la vida y los derechos de todos los ciudadanos, sin intervención extranjera, que solo serviría a la prolongación del conflicto y los intereses de la OTAN.”

Ayer 31 de octubre se produjo un hecho que, como tantos otros, testimonia la falta total de ética en la política yanki.

La Organización de Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura, acababa de adoptar una decisión valiente: otorgar al pueblo heroico de Palestina el derecho a participar como miembro activo en la UNESCO; 107 estados votaron a favor, 14 en contra, 52 se abstuvieron de votar. Todos conocemos perfectamente por qué.

La representante de Estados Unidos en esa institución, siguiendo instrucciones del premio Nobel de la Paz, declaró de inmediato que a partir de ese instante su país suspendía toda ayuda económica a la organización, destinada por la ONU a la educación, la ciencia y la cultura.

El acento dramático con que la dama anunció la decisión era totalmente innecesario. Nadie se sorprendió con la esperada y cínica decisión.

Mas, si fuese todavía poco, bastaría el cable de la AFP fechado en Washington la tarde de hoy a las 16:05:

“‘Tras la cumbre del G20 (...) el presidente (Obama) y el presidente Sarkozy  participarán en una ceremonia en Cannes para celebrar la alianza entre Estados  Unidos y Francia’, indicó la presidencia estadounidense, precisando que los  dirigentes se encontrarán también con ‘soldados estadounidenses y franceses que  han participado juntos en la operación’ en Libia.”

I am taking a brief pause in my political analyses to dedicate this space to the exploits of our Cuban athletes at the Sixteenth Pan-American Games.

The Olympic Games and the international sports competitions revolving around them and which arouse such interest for billions of persons, have a beautiful history that should be remembered not for having been abused.

The contribution of the creator of the Olympic Games was particularly unblemished, more so than that of Nobel who, at one stage of his life, seeking to create a more efficient means of production, produced the explosive whose economic fruits he assigned to carry out his wishes for peace, awarding both scientists and brilliant writers as well as the head of an empire who orders the murder of an adversary in the presence of his family, the bombing of a tribe in central Asia or of a small  independent country in northern Africa and the extermination of its commanding bodies.

Baron Pierre de Coubertin was the father of the modern Olympic Games; an aristocrat by birth, born in France, a capitalist country where peasants, workers or artisans were not given the possibility by that society to undertake that task.

 Ignoring the wishes of his family who wanted him to become an army officer, he broke with the Military Academy and dedicated his life to pedagogy.  In some ways, his life is reminiscent of Darwin, the discoverer of the laws of natural evolution. Coubertin becomes the disciple of an Anglican minister, founds the first magazine dedicated to sports and manages to get the French government to include it in the World Exhibition of 1889.

He begins to dream of bringing together sportsmen from every country in a sporting competition under the principle of union and fraternity, without any profits and driven by the desire to attain glory.

 At first, his ideas were not understood but he persisted, travelling all over the world speaking of peace and union among peoples and all human beings.

Finally, the International Physical Education Congress being held in Paris in 1894 created the Olympic Games.

The idea met with resistance and lack of understanding in England, the principal colonial power; boycotted by Germany, the powerful rival empire; and even opposed by Athens, the city chosen for the first Olympiad.

Pierre de Coubertin was successful in committing emperors, kings and governments in Europe with his tireless efforts and diplomatic talent.

The principal factor was, in my opinion, the depth and nobility of his ideas that won the support of peoples around the world.

For the first time, on March 24, 1896, the King of Greece declared the First International Olympic Games of Athens to be inaugurated, 115 years ago.

Two destructive and shattering wars have occurred since then, both originating in Europe, costing the world tens of millions of persons dead in combat, adding to that the civilians who died in the bombings or because of the hunger and disease that followed. Peace is not guaranteed. What we know is that, in a new world war, modern weaponry could destroy humankind several times over.

It is in the light of these realities that I so admire the conduct of our sportsmen and sportswomen.

The most important thing about the Olympic movement is the conception of sport as a instrument for education, health and friendship among peoples; a real antidote for vices such as drugs, smoking, abusing alcoholic beverages and the acts of violence that so affect human society.

In the mind of the Olympic founder, the idea of salaried sports or the buying and selling of athletes never occurred.  That was also the noble objective of the Cuban Revolution, involving the duty of promoting sports just as health, education, science, culture and the arts, always the undeniable principles of the Revolution. 

Not only that, our country promoted the practice of sports and the training of coaches in Third World countries that were struggling for their development. The International School for Physical Education and Sports has been functioning in our Homeland for many years and it has trained many coaches who efficiently carry out their jobs in countries that at times compete in important sports with our very own athletes.

Thousands of Cuban specialists have provided their services as coaches and sports technicians in many countries of what is known as the Third World.

It is within the framework of those principles being applied during dozens of years that our people feel proud of the medals that their athletes obtain at the international competitions. 

The transnationals of professional sports have left the dreams of the creator of the Olympics far behind.

Taking advantage of the prestige created by the sporting competitions, excellent athletes, many of them born in the poor nations of Africa and Latin America, are bought and sold on the international market by those companies and, only on a handful of occasions are they allowed to play on teams of their own countries where they were promoted as prestigious athletes by their personal efforts and because of their own qualities.

Our people, austere and sacrificing, has had to face up to the claws of those money-grubbing merchants of professional sports who offer fabulous amounts of money to our athletes and, at times, deprive the people of their presence with those gross acts of piracy.

As a sports fan, I have chatted many times with the most outstanding of them and that is why, on this occasion, I am really pleased to see the sports successes of our delegation on TV and their victorious return to the Homeland, back from Guadalajara where the United States, despite having approximately 27 times more inhabitants than Cuba, was only able to obtain 1.58 times more standings and the corresponding gold medals than Cuba which obtained 58.

Brazil, with more than 200 million inhabitants, got 48.

México, with more than 100, got 42.

Canada, a wealthy developed country with 34 million inhabitants, got only 29.

The total number of gold, silver and bronze medals won by Cuba was proportional to the number of standings mentioned.

Quite a few of our young athletes had truly amazing successes.

Despite the victories which fill our people with pride, we have the duty to continue excelling.

La Hazaña de Guadalajara

Hago un breve receso en mis análisis políticos para dedicar este espacio a la hazaña de los atletas cubanos en los Decimosextos Juegos Deportivos Panamericanos.

Los Juegos Olímpicos y las competencias deportivas internacionales que giran en torno a ellos, y despiertan tanto interés en miles de millones de personas, tienen una hermosa historia que no por ultrajada debiera dejar de recordarse.

El aporte del creador de los Juegos Olímpicos fue especialmente nítido, más aún que el de Nobel quién en una etapa de su vida, buscando crear un medio más eficaz de producción, produjo el explosivo con cuyos frutos económicos los designados para cumplir su voluntad en favor de la paz lo mismo premian a un científico o escritor brillante, que al jefe de un imperio que ordena el asesinato de un adversario en presencia de su familia, el bombardeo de una tribu en el centro de Asia o de un pequeño país independiente del norte de África, y el exterminio de sus órganos de mando.

El Barón Pierre de Coubertin fue el creador de los Juegos Olímpicos modernos; de origen aristocrático, nacido en Francia, país capitalista donde un campesino, un obrero, o un artesano, no tenían en aquella sociedad posibilidad alguna de emprender esa tarea.

Desatendiendo los deseos de su familia, que deseaba hacer de él un oficial del ejército, rompió con la Academia Militar y se consagró a la pedagogía. De cierta forma su vida recuerda la de Darwin, descubridor de las leyes de la Evolución Natural. Coubertin se convierte en discípulo de un pastor anglicano, funda la primera revista dedicada al deporte y logra que el gobierno francés la incluya en la Exposición Universal de 1889.

Comienza a soñar con reunir en una competencia a deportistas de todos los países bajo el principio de la unión y la hermandad, sin fines lucrativos y solo impulsados por el deseo de alcanzar la gloria.

 Sus ideas inicialmente no fueron muy comprendidas pero persistió, viajó por el mundo hablando de paz y unión entre los pueblos y los seres humanos.

Finalmente, el Congreso Internacional de Educación Física, celebrado en Paris en junio de 1894, creó los Juegos Olímpicos.

La idea encontró resistencia e incomprensión en Inglaterra, la principal potencia colonial; el boicot de Alemania, poderoso imperio rival; e incluso la oposición de Atenas, ciudad escogida para la primera Olimpiada.

Pierre de Coubertin logró comprometer a emperadores, reyes y gobiernos de Europa con sus incansables esfuerzos y su talento diplomático.

Lo principal fue, a mi juicio, la profundidad y la nobleza de sus ideas que ganaron el apoyo de los pueblos del mundo.

El 24 de marzo de 1896, el Rey de Grecia, por primera vez, declaró abierto los Primeros Juegos Olímpicos Internacionales de Atenas, hace 115 años.

Dos destructivas y demoledoras guerras han transcurrido desde entonces, originadas ambas en Europa, las que costaron al mundo decenas de millones de personas muertas en los combates, y a los cuales se sumaron los civiles muertos en los bombardeos o por el hambre y las enfermedades que vinieron después. La paz no está garantizada. Lo que se conoce es que, en una nueva guerra mundial, las armas modernas podrían destruir varias veces a la humanidad.

Es a la luz de estas realidades que tanto admiro la conducta de nuestros deportistas.

Lo más importante del movimiento olímpico es la concepción del deporte como instrumento de educación, salud y amistad entre los pueblos; un antídoto real a vicios como las drogas, el consumo de tabacos, el abuso de bebidas alcohólicas, y los actos de violencia que tanto afectan a la sociedad humana.

Por la mente del fundador del olimpismo no pasaba el deporte tarifado ni el mercado de atletas. Ese fue también el noble objetivo de la Revolución cubana, lo cual implicaba el deber de promover tanto el deporte como la salud, la educación, la ciencia, la cultura y el arte, que fueron siempre principios irrenunciables de la Revolución.

Más no solo eso, nuestro país promovió la práctica deportiva y la formación de entrenadores en los países del Tercer Mundo que luchaban por su desarrollo. Una Escuela Internacional de Educación Física y Deportes funciona en nuestra Patria desde hace muchos años, y en ella se han formado numerosos entrenadores que desempeñan con eficiencia sus funciones en países que a veces compiten en importantes deportes con nuestros propios atletas.

Miles de especialistas cubanos han prestados sus servicios como entrenadores y técnicos deportivos en muchos países del llamado Tercer Mundo.

Es en el marco de esos principios aplicados durante decenas de años que nuestro pueblo se siente orgulloso de las medallas que obtienen sus atletas en las competencias internacionales.

Las transnacionales del deporte tarifado han dejado muy atrás los sueños del creador del olimpismo.

Valiéndose del prestigio creado por las competencias deportivas, excelentes atletas, la mayoría de ellos nacidos en países pobres de África y América Latina, son comprados y vendidos en el mercado internacional por aquellas empresas, y solo en contadas ocasiones se les permite jugar en los equipos de su propio país, donde fueron promovidos como atletas prestigiosos por sus esfuerzos personales y su propia calidad.

Nuestro pueblo, austero y sacrificado, ha tenido que enfrentarse a los zarpazos de esos mercachifles del deporte rentado que ofrecen fabulosas sumas a nuestros  atletas, y en ocasiones privan al pueblo de su presencia con esos groseros actos de piratería.

Como aficionado al deporte muchas veces conversé con los más destacados, y por ello en esta ocasión me complacía mucho ver a través de la televisión los éxitos deportivos de nuestra delegación y su regreso victorioso a la Patria, procedente de Guadalajara, donde Estados Unidos, a pesar de poseer aproximadamente 27 veces más habitantes que Cuba, sólo pudo obtener 1,58 veces más títulos y las correspondientes medallas de oro que Cuba, la cual alcanzó 58.

Brasil, con más de 200 millones de habitantes, obtuvo 48.

México, con más de 100, obtuvo 42.

Canadá, un país rico y desarrollado con 34 millones de habitantes, obtuvo solo 29.

El número total de medallas de oro, plata y bronce alcanzadas por Cuba, fue proporcional al número de títulos mencionados.

No pocos de nuestros jóvenes atletas tuvieron éxitos verdaderamente sorprendentes.

A pesar de las victorias, que enorgullecen a nuestro pueblo, tenemos el deber de seguir superándonos.

On March 2nd, under the title of “NATO’s Inevitable War” I wrote:

“In contrast with what is happening in Egypt and Tunisia, Libya occupies the first spot on the Human Development Index for Africa and it has the highest life expectancy on the continent.  Education and health receive special attention from the State.  The cultural level of its population is without a doubt the highest.  Its problems are of a different sort. […] The country needed an abundant foreign labour force to carry out ambitious plans for production and social development.”

“It had enormous incomes and reserves in convertible currencies deposited in the banks of the wealthy countries from which they acquired consumer goods and even sophisticated weapons that were supplied exactly by the same countries that today want to invade it in the name of human rights.

“The colossal campaign of lies, unleashed by the mass media, resulted in great confusion in world public opinion.  Some time will go by before we can reconstruct what has really happened in Libya, and we can separate the true facts from the false ones that have been spread.”

“The empire and its main allies used the most sophisticated media to divulge information about the events, among which one had to deduce the shreds of the truth.”

“Imperialism and NATO – seriously concerned by the revolutionary wave unleashed in the Arab world, where a large part of the oil is generated that sustains the consumer economy of the developed and rich countries – could not help but take advantage of the internal conflict arising in Libya so that they could promote military intervention.”

“In spite of the flood of lies and the confusion that was created, the US could not drag China and the Russian Federation to the approval by the Security Council for a military intervention in Libya, even though it managed to obtain  however, in the Human Rights Council, approval of the objectives it was seeking at that moment.”

“The real fact is that Libya is now wrapped up in a civil war, as we had foreseen, and the United Nations could do nothing to avoid it, other than its own Secretary General sprinkling the fire with a goodly dose of fuel.

“The problem that perhaps the actors were not imagining is that the very leaders of the rebellion were bursting into the complicated matter declaring that they were rejecting all foreign military intervention.”

One of the rebellion’s ringleaders, Abdelhafiz Ghoga, declared on February 28th, in an encounter with journalists: “What we want is intelligence information, but in no case that our sovereignty is affected in the air, on land or on the seas.”

“The intransigence of the people responsible for the opposition on national sovereignty was reflecting the opinion being spontaneously manifested by many Libyan citizens to the international press in Benghazi”, informed a dispatch of the AFP agency this past Monday.

“That same day, a political sciences professor at the University of Benghazi, Abeir Imneina, adversary of   Gaddafi stated:

  “There is very strong national feeling in Libya.”

“‘Furthermore, the example of Iraq strikes fear in the Arab world as a whole’, she underlined, in reference to the American invasion of 2003 that was supposed to bring democracy to that country and then, by contagion, to the region as a whole, a hypothesis totally belied by the facts.”

“‘We know what happened in Iraq, it’s that it is fully unstable and we really don’t want to follow the same path.  We don’t want the Americans to come to have to go crying to Gaddafi’, this expert continued.”

 “A few hours after this dispatch was printed, two of the main press bodies of the United States, The New York Times and The Washington Post, hastened to offer new versions on the subject; the DPA agency informs on this on the following day, March the first: “The Libyan opposition could request that the West bomb from the air strategic positions of the forces loyal to President Muamar al Gaddafi, the US press informed today’.”

“The subject is being discussed inside the Libyan Revolutionary Council, ‘The New York Times’ and ‘The Washington Post’ specified in their online versions.”

“'In the event that air actions are carried out within the United Nations framework, these would not imply international intervention, explained the council’s spokesperson, quoted by The New York Times'”.

“‘The Washington Post’ quoted rebels acknowledging that, without Western backing, combat with the forces loyal to Gaddafi could last a long time and cost many human lives.” 

In that Reflection, I immediately wondered:

“Why the effort to present the rebels as prominent members of society demanding bombing by the US and NATO in order to kill Libyans?”

“Some day we shall know the truth, through persons such as the political sciences professor from the University of Benghazi who, with such eloquence, tells of the terrible experience that killed, destroyed homes, left millions of persons in Iraq without jobs or forced them to emigrate.”

 “Today on Wednesday, the second of March, the EFE Agency presents the well-known rebel spokesperson making statements that, in my opinion, affirm and at the same time contradict those made on Monday: “Benghazi (Libya), March 2.  The rebel Libyan leadership today asked the UN Security Council to launch an air attack ‘against the mercenaries’ of the Muamar el Gaddafi regime.’”

“Which one of the many imperialist wars would this look like?

“The one in Spain in 1936? Mussolini’s against Ethiopia in 1935? George W. Bush’s against Iraq in the year 2003 or any other of the dozens of wars promoted by the United States against the peoples of the Americas, from the invasion of Mexico in 1846 to the invasion of the Falkland Islands in 1982?

 “Without excluding, of course, the mercenary invasion of the Bay of Pigs, the dirty war and the blockade of our Homeland throughout 50 years, that will have another anniversary next April 16th.

“In all those wars, like that of Vietnam which cost millions of lives, the most cynical justifications and measures prevailed.

 “For anyone harbouring any doubts, about the inevitable military intervention that shall occur in Libya, the AP news agency, which I consider to be well-informed, headlined a cable printed today which stated: “The NATO countries are drawing up a contingency plan taking as its model the flight exclusion zones established over the Balkans in the 1990s, in the event that the international community decides to impose an air embargo over Libya, diplomats said’.”

Any honest person capable of objectively observing the events can appreciate the danger lying in the ensemble of cynical and brutal events that characterize United States policy and explain the embarrassing solitude of that country in the UN debate on “The need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial embargo on Cuba”.

I am closely following the Pan-American Games of Guadalajara 2011, despite my work.

Our country swells with pride for those young people who exemplify for the world their selflessness and spirit of solidarity.  I warmly congratulate them; nobody can take away from them the place of honour they have earned.

El dos de marzo, bajo el título de “La guerra inevitable de la OTAN” escribí:

“A diferencia de lo que ocurre en Egipto y Túnez, Libia ocupa el primer lugar en el Índice de Desarrollo Humano de África y tiene la más alta esperanza de vida del Continente. La educación y la salud reciben especial atención del Estado. El nivel cultural de su población es sin dudas más alto.  Sus problemas son de otro carácter. […] El país requería abundante fuerza de trabajo extranjera para llevar a cabo ambiciosos planes de producción y desarrollo social.”

“Disponía de enormes ingresos y reservas en divisas convertibles depositadas en los bancos de los países ricos, con las cuales adquirían bienes de consumo e incluso, armas sofisticadas que precisamente le suministraban los mismos países que hoy quieren invadirla en nombre de los derechos humanos.

“La colosal campaña de mentiras, desatada por los medios masivos de información, dio lugar a una gran confusión en la opinión pública mundial. Pasará tiempo antes de que pueda reconstruirse lo que realmente ha ocurrido en Libia, y separar los hechos reales de los falsos que se han divulgado.”

“El imperio y sus principales aliados emplearon los medios más sofisticados para divulgar informaciones deformadas sobre los acontecimientos, entre las cuales había que inferir los rasgos de la verdad.”

“El imperialismo y la OTAN ─seriamente preocupados por la ola revolucionaria desatada en el mundo árabe, donde se genera gran parte del petróleo que sostiene la economía de consumo de los países desarrollados y ricos─ no podían dejar de aprovechar el conflicto interno surgido en Libia para promover la intervención militar.”

“Pese al diluvio de mentiras y la confusión creada, Estados Unidos no pudo arrastrar a China y la Federación Rusa a la aprobación por el Consejo de Seguridad de una intervención militar en Libia, aunque logró en cambio obtener, en el Consejo de Derechos Humanos, la aprobación de los objetivos que buscaba en ese momento.”

“El hecho real es que Libia está ya envuelta en una guerra civil, como habíamos previsto, y nada pudo hacer Naciones Unidas para evitarlo, excepto que su propio Secretario General regara una buena dosis de combustible en el fuego.

“El problema que tal vez no imaginaban los actores es que los propios líderes de la rebelión irrumpieran en el complicado tema declarando que rechazaban toda intervención militar extranjera.”

Uno de los cabecillas de la rebelión, Abdelhafiz Ghoga, declaró el 28 de febrero en un encuentro con los periodistas: “Lo que queremos es informaciones de inteligencia, pero en ningún caso que se afecte nuestra soberanía aérea, terrestre o marítima.”

“La intransigencia de los responsables de la oposición sobre la soberanía nacional reflejaba la opinión manifestada en forma espontánea por muchos ciudadanos libios a la prensa internacional en Bengasi, informó un despacho de la agencia AFP el pasado lunes.

“Ese mismo día, una profesora de Ciencias Políticas de la Universidad de Bengasi, Abeir Imneina, ―adversaria de Gaddafi― declaró:

“Hay un sentimiento nacional muy fuerte en Libia.” 

“'Además, el ejemplo de Irak da miedo al conjunto del mundo árabe', subraya, en referencia a la invasión norteamericana de 2003 que debía llevar la democracia a ese país y luego, por contagio, al conjunto de la región, una hipótesis totalmente desmentida por los hechos.”

“'Sabemos lo que pasó en Irak, es que se encuentra en plena inestabilidad, y verdaderamente no deseamos seguir el mismo camino. No queremos que los norteamericanos vengan para tener que terminar lamentando a Gaddafi', continuó esta experta.”

“A las pocas horas de publicarse este despacho, dos de los principales órganos de prensa de Estados Unidos, 'The New York Times' y 'The Washington Post', se apresuraron en ofrecer nuevas versiones sobre el tema, de lo cual informa la agencia DPA al día siguiente 1º de marzo: ‘La oposición libia podría solicitar que Occidente bombardee desde el aire posiciones estratégicas de las fuerzas fieles al presidente Muamar Al Gaddafi, informa hoy la prensa estadounidense’.”

“El tema está siendo discutido dentro del Consejo Revolucionario libio, precisan 'The New York Times' y 'The Washington Post' en sus versiones online.”

“En el caso de que las acciones aéreas se realicen en el marco de las Naciones Unidas, éstas no implicarían intervención internacional, explicó el portavoz del consejo, citado por 'The New York Times'.”

“'The Washington Post' citó a rebeldes reconociendo que, sin el apoyo de Occidente, los combates con las fuerzas leales a Gaddafi podrían durar mucho y costar gran cantidad de vidas humanas.”

De inmediato me pregunté en esa Reflexión:

“¿Por qué el empeño en presentar a los rebeldes como miembros prominentes de la sociedad reclamando bombardeos de Estados Unidos y la OTAN para matar libios?”

“Algún día se conocerá la verdad, a través de personas como la profesora de Ciencias Políticas de la Universidad de Bengasi, que con tanta elocuencia narra la terrible experiencia que mató, destruyó los hogares, dejó sin empleo o hizo emigrar a millones de personas en Iraq.

“Hoy miércoles dos de marzo, la Agencia EFE presenta al conocido vocero rebelde haciendo declaraciones que, a mi juicio, afirman y a la vez contradicen las del lunes: ‘Bengasi (Libia), 2 de marzo. La dirección rebelde libia pidió hoy al Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU que lance un ataque aéreo 'contra los mercenarios' del régimen de Muamar Al Gaddafi.’”

“¿A cuál de las muchas guerras imperialistas se parecería esta?

“¿La de España en 1936, la de Mussolini contra Etiopía en 1935, la de George W. Bush contra Iraq en el año 2003 o a cualquiera de las decenas de guerras promovidas por Estados Unidos contra los pueblos de América, desde la invasión de México en 1846, hasta la de Las Malvinas en 1982?

“Sin excluir, desde luego, la invasión mercenaria de Girón, la guerra sucia y el bloqueo a nuestra Patria a lo largo de 50 años, que se cumplirán el próximo 16 de abril.

“En todas esas guerras, como la de Vietnam que costó millones de vidas, imperaron las justificaciones y las medidas más cínicas.

“Para los que alberguen alguna duda, sobre la inevitable intervención militar que se producirá en Libia, la agencia de noticias AP, a la que considero bien informada, encabezó un cable publicado hoy, en el que se afirma: ‘Los países de la Organización del Tratado del Atlántico Norte (OTAN) elaboran un plan de contingencia tomando como modelo las zonas de exclusión de vuelos establecidas sobre los Balcanes en la década de 1990, en caso de que la comunidad internacional decida imponer un embargo aéreo sobre Libia, dijeron diplomáticos’.”

Cualquier persona honesta capaz de observar con objetividad los acontecimientos, puede apreciar la peligrosidad del conjunto de hechos cínicos y brutales que caracterizan la política de Estados Unidos, y explican la bochornosa soledad de ese país en el debate de Naciones Unidas sobre la “Necesidad de poner fin al bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero contra Cuba”.

Sigo de cerca, a pesar de mi trabajo, los Juegos Panamericanos Guadalajara 2011.

Nuestro país se enorgullece de esos jóvenes que son ejemplos para el mundo por su desinterés y espíritu de solidaridad. Los felicito calurosamente, ya nadie podrá arrebatarles el lugar de honor que se han ganado.

On February 23rd, under the title of “The Cynical Danse Macabre”, I set out:

  “The policy of plundering imposed by the United States and their NATO allies in the Middle East has gone into a crisis. ”

 “Thanks to the treason committed by Sadat at Camp David, the Palestinian State has not been able to exist, despite the UN treaties of November 1947, and Israel became a strong nuclear power, an ally of the United States and NATO. 

The US Military Industrial Complex supplied Israel with tens of billions of dollars every year as well as to the very Arab States that were submitted and being humiliated by Israel.  

The genie has escaped from the bottle and NATO doesn’t know how to control it.

They are going to attempt to wrest the most benefits from the regrettable events in Libya.  Nobody can know at this moment what is happening over there.  All the figures and versions, even the most implausible ones, have been spread by the empire via the mass media, sowing chaos and disinformation. 

It is obvious that inside Libya a civil war is brewing.  Why and how did this happen?  Who will pay the consequences? Reuters Agency, echoing the opinion of the well-known Nomura Bank of Japan, stated that oil prices could go beyond any limits:”

 “…What would be the consequences in the midst of the food crisis?

“The main NATO leaders are all worked up.  British Prime Minister David Cameron, ANSA informed, ‘…admitted in a speech in Kuwait that the western nations made a mistake in backing non-democratic governments in the Arab world.’.”

“His French colleague Nicolas Sarkozy stated: ‘The extended brutal and bloody repression of the Libyan civilian population is disgusting.”

“Italian Chancellor Franco Frattini stated as ‘believable’ the figure of one thousand dead in Tripoli […] ‘the tragic numbers shall be a bloodbath’.”

Hillary Clinton stated: “…the ‘bloodbath’ is ‘completely unacceptable’ and ‘it has to stop’…”

 “Ban Ki-moon spoke: “‘The use of violence in the country is absolutely unacceptable’.”

“…‘the Security Council will act according to whatever the international community decides’.”

“‘We are considering a series of options’.”

What Ban Ki-moon is really hoping is that Obama pronounces the last word. 

The president of the United States spoke this Wednesday afternoon and stated that the Secretary of State would be leaving for Europe in order to agree with their NATO allies on the measures to be taken. On his face once could note the opportunity to spar with John McCain, the far-right-wing Republican senator, pro-Israel Senator Joseph Lieberman from Connecticut and the leaders of the Tea Party, in order to ensure the Democratic Party demands.

The empire’s mass media has prepared the terrain for action. There would be nothing strange about a military intervention in Libya; besides, with that, Europe would be guaranteed almost two million barrels of light oil per day, unless before that events would put an end to the leadership or the life of Gaddafi.

 “Anyway, Obama’s role is rather complicated.  What will the reaction of the Arab and Muslim world be if blood should flow in abundance in that country as a result of that exploit?  Would NATO intervention in Libya stem the revolutionary tidal wave surging in Egypt?

In Iraq, the innocent blood of more than a million Arab citizens was spilt when the country was invaded under false pretexts.  ”

“Nobody in the world would ever agree with the deaths of defenceless civilians in Libya or anywhere else.  And I wonder: will the US and NATO apply that principle on the defenceless civilians that the unmanned Yankee planes and the soldiers of that organization kill every day in Afghanistan and Pakistan?

It is a cynical danse macabre.”

While I was meditating upon these events, the debate scheduled for yesterday, Tuesday, October 25th, began at the United Nations, on the “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”, something that has been addressed by the immense majority of the member countries of that institution over the course of 20 years.

This time, the numerous basic and just reasons – that for US administrations were nothing more than rhetorical exercises – made clear as never before the political and moral weakness of the most powerful empire that has existed, to whose oligarchic interests and insatiable lust for power and wealth all the inhabitants of the planet have been submitted, including the people of that very country.  

The United States tyrannizes and pillages the globalized world with its political, economic, technological and military might. 

That truth becomes ever more obvious after the honest and valiant debates that have been taking place in the last 20 years at the UN, with the support of the states that one presumes express the will of the immense majority of the planet’s inhabitants.

Before Bruno’s address, many countries’ organizations expressed their points of view via one of their members.  The first of these was Argentina on behalf of the Group of 77 and China; Egypt followed on behalf of the Non-Aligned Nations; Kenya on behalf of the African Union; Belize on behalf of CARICOM; Kazakhstan on behalf of the Islamic Cooperation Organization; and Uruguay on behalf of MERCOSUR.

Besides these group-based expressions, China, a country with growing political and economic clout in the world, India and Indonesia firmly supported the Resolution through their ambassadors; among the three of them they represent 2.700 million inhabitants.  The ambassadors of the Russian Federation, Belorussia, South Africa, Algeria, Venezuela and Mexico also spoke.  Among the poorest countries of the Caribbean and Latin America, there were vibrating words of solidarity, such as the ones by the ambassador of Belize, who spoke on behalf of the Caribbean community, also the ambassador of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, who spoke on behalf of his country and the one from Bolivia, whose arguments related to solidarity with our people, despite a blockade that is now lasting 50 years, will be an undying stimulus for our physicians, educators and scientists.

Nicaragua spoke prior to the vote, to courageously explain why it would be voting against that treacherous measure.

Also speaking earlier was the United States representative, to explain the unexplainable. I was sorry for him. It was the role they had given him.

When the time for the vote arrived, two countries were absent: Libya and Sweden; three abstained: the Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau; two voted nay: the US and Israel. Adding up those who voted nay, abstained or were absent: the United States with 313 million inhabitants; Israel with 7.4 million; Sweden with 9.5 million; Libya with 6.5 million; Marshall Islands with 67.100; Micronesia, 106.800; Palau with 20.900, the total comes to 336 million 948 thousand, equivalent to 4.8% of the world’s population which this month is at 7 billion.  

Following voting, to explain their vote, Poland spoke on behalf of the European Union which, in spite of its close alliance with the United States and its forced participation in the blockade, is against that criminal measure.

Afterwards, 17 countries spoke, to resolutely and decisively explain why they voted for the Resolution against the embargo.

El Papel Genocida de la OTAN - Tercera Parte
El 23 de febrero, bajo el título “Danza macabra de cinismo” expuse:

  “La política de saqueo impuesta por Estados Unidos y sus aliados de la OTAN en el Oriente Medio entró en crisis.”

 “Gracias a la traición de Sadat en Camp David el Estado árabe palestino no ha podido existir, pese a los acuerdos de la ONU de noviembre de 1947, e Israel se convirtió en una fuerte potencia nuclear aliada a Estados Unidos y la OTAN.

“El Complejo Militar Industrial de Estados Unidos suministró decenas de miles de millones de dólares cada año a Israel  y a los propios estados árabes sometidos y humillados por éste.

“El genio ha salido de la botella y la OTAN no sabe cómo controlarlo.

“Van a tratar de sacarle el máximo provecho a los lamentables sucesos de Libia. Nadie sería capaz de saber en este momento lo que allí está ocurriendo. Todas las cifras y versiones, hasta las más inverosímiles, han sido divulgadas por el imperio a través de los medios masivos, sembrando el caos y la desinformación.

“Es evidente que dentro de Libia se desarrolla una guerra civil. ¿Por qué y cómo se desató la misma? ¿Quiénes pagarán las consecuencias? La agencia Reuters, haciéndose eco del criterio de un conocido banco de Japón, el Nomura, expresó que el precio del petróleo podría sobrepasar cualquier límite.”

“…¿Cuáles serían las consecuencias en medio de la crisis alimentaria?

“Los líderes principales de la OTAN están exaltados. El Primer Ministro británico, David Cameron, informó ANSA, ‘…admitió en un discurso en Kuwait que los países occidentales se equivocaron en apoyar gobiernos no democráticos en el mundo árabe’.”

“Su colega francés Nicolás Sarkozy declaró: ‘La prolongada represión brutal y sangrienta de la población civil libia es repugnante’.”

“El canciller italiano Franco Frattini declaró ‘creíble’ la cifra de mil muertos en Trípoli […] ‘la cifra trágica será un baño de sangre’.”

“Hillary Clinton declaró: “…el ‘baño de sangre’ es ‘completamente inaceptable’ y ‘tiene que parar’…”

“Ban Ki-moon habló: ‘Es absolutamente inaceptable el uso de la violencia que hay en el país’.”

“…‘el Consejo de Seguridad actuará de acuerdo a lo que decida la comunidad internacional’.”

“‘Estamos considerando una serie de opciones’.”

“Lo que Ban Ki-moon espera realmente es que Obama diga la última palabra.

“El Presidente de Estados Unidos habló en la tarde de este miércoles y expresó que la Secretaria de Estado saldría para Europa a fin de acordar con sus aliados de la OTAN las medidas a tomar. En su cara se apreciaba la oportunidad de lidiar con el senador de la extrema derecha de los republicanos John McCain;el senadorpro israelita de Connecticut, Joseph Liebermany los líderes del Tea Party, para garantizar su postulación por el partido demócrata.

 “Los medios masivos del imperio han preparado el terreno para actuar. Nada tendría de extraño la intervención militar en Libia, con lo cual, además, garantizaría a Europa los casi dos millones de barriles diarios de petróleo ligero, si antes no ocurren sucesos que pongan fin a la jefatura o la vida de Gaddafi.

“De cualquier forma, el papel de Obama es bastante complicado. ¿Cuál será la reacción del mundo árabe y musulmán si la sangre en ese país se derrama en abundancia con esa aventura? ¿Detendrá una intervención de la OTAN en Libia la ola revolucionaria desatada en Egipto?

“En Iraq se derramó la sangre inocente de más de un millón de ciudadanos árabes, cuando el país fue invadido con falsos pretextos.”

“Nadie en el mundo estará nunca de acuerdo con la muerte de civiles indefensos en Libia o cualquier otra parte. Y me pregunto: ¿aplicarán Estados Unidos y la OTAN ese principio a los civiles indefensos que los aviones sin piloto yankis y los soldados de esa organización matan todos los días en Afganistán y Pakistán?

“Es una danza macabra de cinismo.”

Mientras meditaba sobre estos hechos, en Naciones Unidas se abrió el debate previsto para ayer, martes 25 de octubre, en torno a la “Necesidad de poner fin al bloqueo comercial y financiero impuesto por Estados Unidos de América contra Cuba”, algo que se ha venido planteando por la inmensa mayoría de los países miembros de esa institución a lo largo de 20 años.

Esta vez los numerosos razonamientos elementales y justos -que para los gobiernos de Estados Unidos no eran más que ejercicios retóricos- pusieron en evidencia, como nunca antes, la endeblez política y moral del imperio más poderoso que ha existido, a cuyos intereses oligárquicos e insaciable sed de poder y riquezas han sido sometidos todos los habitantes del planeta, incluido el propio pueblo de ese país.

Estados Unidos tiraniza y saquea al mundo globalizado con su poderío político, económico, tecnológico y militar.

Esa verdad se hace cada vez más obvia tras los debates honestos y valientes que han tenido lugar en los últimos 20 años en Naciones Unidas, con el apoyo de los estados que se supone expresen la voluntad de la inmensa mayoría de los habitantes del planeta.           

Antes de la intervención de Bruno, numerosas organizaciones de países expresaron sus puntos de vista a través de uno de sus miembros. El primero de ellos fue Argentina a nombre del Grupo de los 77 más China; le siguieron Egipto, a nombre de los NOAL;  Kenya, a nombre de la Unión Africana; Belice, a nombre de CARICOM; Kazajstán, a nombre de la Organización de la Cooperación Islámica; y   Uruguay, a nombre de MERCOSUR.

Con independencia de estas expresiones de carácter colectivo, China, país de creciente peso político y económico en el mundo, India e Indonesia apoyaron firmemente la resolución a través de sus embajadores; entre los tres representan 2 700 millones de habitantes. También lo hicieron los embajadores de la Federación Rusa, Belarús, Sudáfrica, Argelia, Venezuela y México.Entre los países más pobres del Caribe y América Latina, vibraron las palabras solidarias de la embajadora de Belice, que habló en nombre de la comunidad del Caribe, el de San Vicente y las Granadinas, que lo hizo a nombre de su país, y el de Bolivia, cuyos argumentos relacionados con la solidaridad de nuestro pueblo, a pesar de un bloqueo que dura ya 50 años, será un estímulo imperecedero para nuestros médicos, educadores y científicos.

Nicaragua habló antes de la votación, para explicar con valentía por qué votaría contra aquella pérfida medida.

También lo hizo con anterioridad el representante de Estados Unidos para explicar lo inexplicable. Sentí pena por él. Es el papel que le asignaron. 

Cuando llegó la hora de la votación, dos países se ausentaron: Libia y Suecia; tres se abstuvieron: Islas Marshall, Micronesia y Palau; dos votaron en contra: Estados Unidos e Israel. Sumados los que votaron en contra, se abstuvieron, o se ausentaron: Estados Unidos, con 313 millones de habitantes; Israel, con 7,4 millones; Suecia, con 9,1 millones; Libia, con 6,5 millones; Islas Marshall, con 67.1 mil; Micronesia, 106.8 mil; Palau, con 20.9 mil, suman 336 millones 948 mil, equivalente al 4.8% de la población mundial, que ya se eleva este mes a 7 mil millones.

Después de la votación, para explicar sus votos, habló Polonia a nombre de la Unión Europea que, a pesar de su alianza estrecha con Estados Unidos y su obligada participación en el bloqueo, es contraria a esa criminal medida.

Después hicieron uso de la palabra, para explicar con firmeza y decisión por qué votaron la resolución contra el bloqueo, 17 países.

NATO’S GENOCIDAL ROLE  (PART TWO) A little over eight months ago, on February 21st of this year, I stated with complete conviction: “The NATO plan is to occupy Libya”.  With that title I dealt with the subject for the first time in a Reflection whose content seemed to be the product of a fantasy.

I include in these lines the elements for the opinion that led me to that conclusion.

“Oil has become the principal wealth in the hands of the great Yankee transnationals; through this energy source they had an instrument that considerably expanded their political power in the world.”

“Upon this energy source today’s civilization was developed.  Venezuela was the nation in this hemisphere that paid the highest price.  The United States became the lord and master of the huge oil fields that Mother Nature had bestowed upon that sister country.”

“At the end of the last World War, it started to extract greater amounts of oil from the oil fields of Iran, as well as those in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the Arab countries located around them.  These became the main suppliers.  World consumption progressively increased to the fabulous figure of approximately 80 million barrels a day, including those being extracted on United States territory, to which later gas, hydro and nuclear energies were added.”

“The squandering of oil and gas is associated with one of the greatest tragedies, not in the least resolved, which is suffered by humankind: climate change.”

“In December of 1951, Libya becomes the first African country to attain its independence after WW II, during which its territory was the stage for important battles between the troops of Germany and the United Kingdom…”

“Ninety-five percent of its territory is completely made up of desert.  Technology permitted the discovery of vital oilfields of excellent quality light oil that today reach one million 800 thousand barrels a day along with abundant deposits of natural gas. […] Its harsh desert is located over an enormous lake of fossil waters, equivalent to more than three times the land area of Cuba; this has made it possible to construct a broad network of pipelines of fresh water that stretch from one end of the country to the other.”

“The Libyan Revolution took place in the month of September of the year 1969. Its main leader was Muammar al-Gaddafi, a soldier of Bedouin origin who, in his early years, was inspired by the ideas of the Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser.  Without any doubt, many of his decisions are associated with the changes that were produced when, as in Egypt, a weak and corrupt monarchy was overthrown in Libya.”

“One can agree with Gaddafi or not.  The world has been invaded with all kinds of news, especially using the mass media.  One has to wait the necessary length of time in order to learn precisely what is the truth and what are lies, or a mixture of events of every kind that, in the midst of chaos, were produced in Libya.  For me, what is absolutely clear is that the government of the United States is not in the least worried about peace in Libya and it will not hesitate in giving NATO the order to invade that rich country, perhaps in a matter of hours or a few short days.”

“Those who with perfidious intentions invented the lie that Gaddafi was headed for Venezuela, just as they did yesterday afternoon on  Sunday the 20th of February, today received an fitting response from Foreign Affairs Minister  Nicolás Maduro...”

“As for me, I cannot imagine that the Libyan leader would abandon his country; escaping the responsibilities he is charged with, whether or not they are partially or totally false.”

“An honest person shall always be against any injustice being committed against any people in the world, and the worst of all, at this moment, would be to remain silent in the face of the crime that NATO is getting ready to commit against the Libyan people.”

“The leadership of that war-mongering organization has to do it.  We must condemn it!”

At that early date I had realized something that was absolutely obvious.

Tomorrow, on Tuesday October 25th, our chancellor Bruno Rodríguez will speak at UN Headquarters to denounce the criminal blockade of the United States against Cuba.  We shall be closely following that battle which will once again make clear the necessity of putting an end to, not just the blockade, but the system that spawns injustice on our planet, squanders its natural resources and puts human survival at risk.  We shall be paying particular attention to Cuba’s declaration.

El Papel Genocida de la OTAN - Segunda Parte

Hace algo más de ocho meses, el 21 de febrero del presente año, afirmé con plena convicción: “El plan de la OTAN es ocupar Libia”. Bajo ese título abordé por primera vez el tema en una Reflexión cuyo contenido parecía fruto de la fantasía.

Incluyo en estas líneas los elementos de juicio que me llevaron a esa conclusión.

“El petróleo se convirtió en la principal riqueza en manos de las grandes transnacionales yankis; a través de esa fuente de energía dispusieron de un instrumento que acrecentó considerablemente su poder político en el mundo”.

“Sobre esa fuente de energía se desarrolló la civilización actual. Venezuela fue la nación de este hemisferio que mayor precio pagó. Estados Unidos se hizo dueño de los enormes yacimientos con que la naturaleza dotó a ese hermano país.

“Al finalizar la última Guerra Mundial comenzó a extraer de los yacimientos de Irán, así como de los de Arabia Saudita, Iraq y los países árabes situados alrededor de ellos, mayores cantidades de petróleo. Estos pasaron a ser los principales suministradores. El consumo mundial se elevó progresivamente a la fabulosa cifra de aproximadamente 80 millones de barriles diarios, incluidos los que se extraen en el territorio de Estados Unidos, a los que ulteriormente se sumaron el gas, la energía hidráulica y la nuclear”.

“El derroche del petróleo y el gas está asociado a una de las mayores tragedias, no resuelta en absoluto, que sufre la humanidad: el cambio climático.”

“En diciembre  de 1951, Libia se convierte en el primer país africano en alcanzar su independencia después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, en la que su territorio fue escenario de importantes combates entre tropas alemanas y del Reino Unido…”

“El 95 % de su territorio es totalmente desértico. La tecnología permitió descubrir importantes yacimientos de petróleo ligero de excelente calidad que hoy alcanzan       un millón 800 mil barriles diarios y abundantes depósitos de gas natural. […] Su riguroso desierto está ubicado sobre un enorme lago de agua fósil, equivalente a más de tres veces la superficie de Cuba, lo cual le ha hecho posible construir una amplia red de conductoras de agua dulce que se extiende por todo el país.”

“La Revolución Libia tuvo lugar en el mes de septiembre del año 1969. Su principal dirigente fue Muammar Al-Gaddafi, militar de origen beduino, quien en su más temprana juventud se inspiró en las ideas del líder egipcio Gamal Abdel Nasser. Sin duda que muchas de sus decisiones están asociadas a los cambios que se produjeron cuando, al igual que en Egipto, una monarquía débil y corrupta fue derrocada en Libia.”

“Se podrá estar o no de acuerdo con el Gaddafi. El mundo ha sido invadido con todo tipo de noticias, empleando especialmente los medios masivos de información. Habrá que esperar el tiempo necesario para conocer con rigor cuánto hay de verdad o mentira, o una mezcla de hechos de todo tipo que, en medio del caos, se produjeron en Libia. Lo que para mí es absolutamente evidente es que al Gobierno de Estados Unidos no le preocupa en absoluto la paz en Libia, y no vacilará en dar a la OTAN la orden de invadir ese rico país, tal vez en cuestión de horas o muy breves días.

“Los que con pérfidas intenciones inventaron la mentira de que Gaddafi se dirigía a Venezuela, igual que lo hicieron en la tarde de ayer domingo 20 de febrero, recibieron hoy una digna respuesta del Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro…”

“Por mi parte, no imagino al dirigente libio abandonando el país, eludiendo las responsabilidades que se le imputan, sean o no falsas en parte o en su totalidad.

“Una persona honesta estará siempre contra cualquier injusticia que se cometa con cualquier pueblo del mundo, y la peor de ellas, en este instante, sería guardar silencio ante el crimen que la OTAN se prepara a cometer contra el pueblo libio.

“A la jefatura de esa organización belicista le urge hacerlo. ¡Hay que denunciarlo!”

En esa temprana fecha me había percatado de lo que era absolutamente obvio.

Mañana martes, 25 de octubre, hablará nuestro canciller Bruno Rodríguez en la sede de las Naciones Unidas para denunciar el criminal bloqueo de Estados Unidos contra Cuba. Seguiremos de cerca esa batalla que pondrá en evidencia una vez más la necesidad de poner fin, no solo al bloqueo, sino al sistema que engendra la injusticia en nuestro planeta, dilapida sus recursos naturales y pone en riesgo la supervivencia humana. Prestaremos atención especial al alegato de Cuba.

NATO took on that global repressive role as soon as the USSR, which had served the United States as an excuse for its creation, ceased to exist.  Its criminal purpose became obvious in Serbia, a Slavic country, whose people had so heroically fought against Nazi troops in WW II.

When in March of 1999 the countries of this ill-fated organization, in its efforts to disintegrate Yugoslavia after the death of Josip Broz Tito, sent their troops in support of the Kosovar secessionists, they ran into strong resistance from that nation whose experienced forces were still intact.

The Yankee administration, advised by the Spanish right-wing government of José María Aznar, attacked the Serbian TV stations, the bridges over the Danube River and Belgrade, that country’s capital.  The embassy of the People’s Republic of China was destroyed by Yankee bombs, several of the officials died and there could not have been any error as the authors alleged. Many Serbian patriots lost their lives.  President Slobodan Miloševiс, overwhelmed by the power of the aggressors and the disappearance of the USSR, ceded to NATO demands and admitted to the presence of that alliance’s troops in Kosovo under the UN mandate; this finally led to his political downfall and subsequent trial by The Hague courts which were less than impartial.  He died a strange death in prison.  Had the Serbian leader resisted a few more days, NATO would have entered into a serious crisis which was on the point of exploding.  The empire thus had much more time to impose its hegemony among the every more subordinated members of that organization.

Between February 21st and April 27th of this year, I published nine Reflections on the subject on the CubaDebate website; in them I amply dealt with NATO’s role in Libya and what, in my opinion, was going to happen.

Therefore I find myself obliged to synthesize the essential ideas that I put forth, and the events that have been happening as foreseen, just that now the central figure in that story, Muammar Al-Gaddafi, was seriously wounded by the most modern NATO fighter-bombers which intercepted and incapacitated his vehicle, he was captured while still alive and murdered by men that organization had armed.

His body has been kidnapped and exhibited as a trophy of war, conduct that violates the most basic principles of the norms of Muslim and other religious beliefs in the world. It is being announced that very soon Libya shall be declared a “democratic state and defender of human rights.”

I find myself obliged to dedicate several Reflections to these important and significant events.

El Papel Genocida de la OTAN

Esa brutal alianza militar se ha convertido en el más pérfido instrumento de represión que ha conocido la historia de la humanidad.

La OTAN asumió ese papel represivo global tan pronto la URSS, que había servido a Estados Unidos de pretexto para crearla, dejó de existir. Su criminal propósito se hizo patente en Serbia, un país de origen eslavo, cuyo pueblo tan heroicamente luchó contra las tropas nazis en la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Cuando en marzo de 1999 los países de esa nefasta organización, en sus esfuerzos por desintegrar Yugoslavia después de la muerte de Josip Broz Tito, enviaron sus tropas en apoyo de los secesionistas kosovares, encontraron una fuerte resistencia de aquella nación cuyas experimentadas fuerzas estaban intactas.

La administración yanki, aconsejada por el Gobierno derechista español de José María Aznar, atacó las emisoras de televisión de Serbia, los puentes sobre el río Danubio y Belgrado, la capital de ese país. La embajada de la República Popular China fue destruida por las bombas yankis, varios de los funcionarios murieron, y no podía haber error posible como alegaron los autores. Numerosos patriotas serbios perdieron la vida. El presidente Slobodan Miloševiс, abrumado por el poder de los agresores y la desaparición de la URSS, cedió a las exigencias de la OTAN y admitió la presencia de las tropas de esa alianza dentro de Kosovo bajo el mandato de la ONU, lo que finalmente condujo a su derrota política y su posterior enjuiciamiento por los tribunales nada imparciales de La Haya. Murió extrañamente en la prisión. De haber resistido unos días más el líder serbio, la OTAN habría entrado en una grave crisis que estuvo a punto de estallar. El imperio dispuso así de mucho más tiempo para imponer su hegemonía entre los cada vez más subordinados miembros de esa organización.

Entre el 21 de febrero y el 27 de abril del presente año, publiqué en el sitio web CubaDebate nueve Reflexiones sobre el tema, en las que abordé con amplitud el papel de la OTAN en Libia y lo que a mi juicio iba a suceder.

Me veo por ello obligado a una síntesis de las ideas esenciales que expuse, y de los hechos que han ido ocurriendo tal como fueron previstos, ahora que un personaje central de tal historia, Muammar Al-Gaddafi, fue herido de gravedad por los más modernos cazabombarderos de la OTAN que interceptaron e inutilizaron su vehículo, capturado todavía vivo y asesinado por los hombres que esa organización militar armó.

Su cadáver ha sido secuestrado y exhibido como trofeo de guerra, una conducta que viola los más elementales principios de las normas musulmanas y otras creencias religiosas prevalecientes en el mundo. Se anuncia que muy pronto Libia será declarada “Estado democrático y defensor de los derechos humanos”.

Me veo obligado a dedicar varias Reflexiones a estos importantes y significativos hechos.
