Colombo, Aug 20 (Prensa Latina) The preparations for the 6th Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba is progressing well, said today the Caribbean nation''s ambassador to Sri Lanka, where the meeting will be run on October 20-21.
All organizations of friendship with our country in Asia have been invited, and we expect the assistance of a great number from them, Cuban diplomatic head in this country Nirsia Castro told Prensa Latina. The meeting will be dedicated to express the Asian nations' solidarity with the island, reject the U.S. blockade and, in particular, demand the release of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in that northern country since 1998, the diplomat said. Monitoring the activities by groups responsible for numerous attacks against Cuba made a Florida court will impose sentences of double life sentences plus 13 years in prison to Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Rene Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez. The latter was freed in October 2011 after completing his prison term, but he was forced to stay in Miami for three years under supervised release, implying a great risk to his life given the prevailing anti-Cuban atmosphere in that southern U.S. city. The regional meeting of solidarity with Cuba will coincide in time with the closing of the international campaign for the release of the Five, the ambassador said.
