HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 20 (acn) Ramon Labañino, one of the five Cubans unjustly imprisoned in the United States, sent a message to the Anti-Imperialist Tribunal in session at the XVII World Festival of Youth and Students, underway in South Africa.
The letter, read by his eldest daughter Aili, states that humankind is facing one important battles for survival, and present and future generations can save the world from disaster. "This international social order is based on inequality, war, unemployment, damage to the climate, theft of our resources, hunger, disease and destruction of all kinds," reads the text according to Prensa Latina news agency, which adds that “we all know that the problem is imperialism.” “We can build a new society where human beings and not capital or money, is the center of everything. We are confident that all of us together can make a difference!” "When you return to your countries, he urged the delegates to the world event underway in Pretoria, South Africa, remember that we are the hope of the future, and we need to make the planet Earth a peaceful, charming and beautiful place for everyone.” After reading the letter, Aili handed President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, Tiago Vieira, a plaque made especially for the Festival y Gerardo Hernandez, one of the Cuban Five, as those political prisoners in the United States since 1998 are known worldwide. In this Tribunal, Cuban youths reported the case of these patriots, as well as the double standard of U.S. policy, which keeps these innocent men imprisoned, while a confessed terrorist as Luis Posada Carriles, walks free in Miami. The Festival, which concludes tomorrow, brings together some 15 000 delegates from over 140 nations and their motto is “Let’s defeat imperialism, for a world of peace, solidarity and social transformation!” Cuban News Agency
