Charles Roach Presente!

Picture
On October 2, 2012 Charles Roach, a leader in the fight against discrimination and racism, for social justice and equality passed away. For decades Charles Roach led rallies and picket lines to defend the downtrodden. Of course we remember his fight to become a Canadian Citizen without swearing the oath to the Queen, which was cut short by his untimely death.

We, in the Cuban solidarity movement, have always enjoyed his support and it was just very recently that we had a presentation at the Ellington’s Cafe Sunday Poetry for the Cuban Five anti-terrorist heroes unjustly held in U.S. custody and Charles Roach sang and recited poetry dedicated to them.

Friends of Cuba and all those who are in the fight for social justice and against imperialist wars, will always remember Charles Roach and gain strength from his example and that is why we believe “Charles Roach Presente!”
