CLAUDIA FONSECA SOSA CLOSE to two years after it was founded, the Cuban Pastoral Council remains committed to the cause of the Five, its coordinator, Reverend Pablo Odén Marichal, affirmed in a press conference at the International Press Center. "Representatives of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, different traditions of African origin and other manifestations of religious faith and spirituality in Cuba decided to come together in 2011 to work for the reunification of the families of the Cuban anti-terrorists incarcerated in the United States for more than 14 years, a task which we will continue in 2013," he added.
Included in the activities of the group – which also advocates the unity of Cuban families in general – are the Por la luz y el amor volverá (For Light and Love will Return) concert today, February 14, at 4:00pm in Havana’s Anti-Imperialist Tribunal. Other acts of solidarity include seminars, press conferences and cultural events, to which religious figures from the United States and other parts of the world have been invited to state the truth about the case of the Five and demand the immediate release of Gerardo Hernández, Fernando González, Antonio Guerrero and Ramón Labañino, and the return to Cuba of René González, currently serving three years’ probation. Visibly moved, Magalys Llort, Fernando’s mother, expressed thanks in the name of all the family members of the Five for the support, love and solidarity given by the Platform. GRANMA
