Millions of Latin American Signatures for the Five / Latinoamericanos acuerdan reunir firmas por Los Cinco

MANAGUA, Aug. 25 .- Commander the Nicaraguan revolution, Tomas Borge, today called on Latin America to gather millions of signatures so that the U.S. President is obliged to listen to the universal cry of freedom for the Five.

Managua.— El Comandante de la Revolución nicaragüense Tomás Borge llamó hoy a recopilar firmas latinoamericanas para que el presidente de Estados Unidos se vea obligado a escuchar el clamor universal de libertad para Los Cinco.

La exhortación del legendario combatiente tuvo lugar en esta capital, en una jornada de solidaridad con los cinco cubanos antiterroristas presos desde 1998 en cárceles norteamericanas, tras juicio amañado en la Florida.

Más de 3 mil personas, asistentes al IV Encuentro Sindical de Nuestra América, que sesionará aquí hasta el sábado, acogieron con prolongados aplausos la propuesta de Borge de conformar un documento único de toda América Latina.

Solo en Nicaragua podrían reunirse más de 300 mil firmas y cada delegación, de los otros países representados aquí, estaría en condiciones de hacer lo mismo, señaló Borge.

René González, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino y Fernando González guardan prisión por alertar a Cuba sobre los planes terroristas fraguados en La Florida.

Los conductos legales están agotados, pero Obama tiene facultad para ponerlos en libertad, recordó Borge.

Tenemos que romperle los tímpanos al gobierno de Estados Unidos con nuestras exigencias, todos los latinoamericanos juntos, incluidos los emigrantes residentes allá, exhortó el líder sandinista.

Irma Sehwerert, madre de René González, también intervino en este foro, para resaltar que el de hoy fue un momento de "grandes emociones en una batalla larga y sin treguas".

La situación de Gerardo, explicó, es la que más nos duele y nos quita el sueño, sobre él pesan dos cadenas perpetuas más 15 años, y la Casa Blanca trata de impedir la posibilidad de acudir en su caso al recurso extremo del Habeas Corpus.

Piensen, dijo, que en cinco celdas norteamericanas no están solo cinco hombres presos, sino el intento de encarcelar a Cuba, porque ellos continúan en prisión por mantenerse firmes en la defensa de su pueblo.

El padre Miguel D’Escoto, expresidente de la Asamblea General de la ONU, tomó la palabra para pedir más ahínco en la lucha "hasta lograr que el costo político para los Estados Unidos sea cada vez más grande si no los ponen en libertad".

El caso de Los Cinco, estimó, es el más emblemático para demostrar el cinismo e hipocresía del imperio en todo lo que a terrorismo se refiere.

Obama ganó las elecciones con una consigna de cambio, él prometía "un cambio creíble", pero "la verdad es que eso ni se siente ni se ve en el caso de nuestros Cinco Héroes Cubanos", resumió D’Escoto.

Entre los oradores estuvo además Salvador Valdés Mesa, miembro del Buró Político del Partido Comunista y secretario general de la Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC). (PL)
