Madrid, Jul 1.- Cuba solidarity groups in Portugal and Spain demanded the immediate release of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in U.S. prisons since 1998.
The Portuguese and Spanish groups, PortoComCuba and Francisco Villamil, respectively, agreed to develop joint initiatives to denounce the Five's illegal imprisonment almost 13 years ago. That commitment is included in a motion approved in Santiago de Compostela, capital of the Spanish autonomous community of Galicia, where 100 representatives met from PortoComCuba, in Oporto, and Villamil, in Vigo. Cuba's supporters also agreed to promote actions to inform people about the case of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, silenced by the big business media. The Five, as they are universally known, are currently serving harsh sentences for trying to prevent terrorist actions against their country. Meanwhile, self-confessed terrorists such as Luis Posada Carriles freely walk the streets of Miami with impunity, the text says. Both groups slammed the submission of European political leaders to Washington's dictates, and stressed the need to counteract distorted versions of the truth about Cuba. They reaffirmed their unconditional support for the Cuban Revolution, and condemned the long blockade imposed by successive U.S. administrations against the Caribbean nation. (PL).
