Five innocent Cubans have completed 15 years of unjust imprisonment in the United States, five Cubans who left everything behind to protect the life and tranquility of an entire country. In attendance at the concert, along with thousands of Havana residents, were Miguel Díaz-Canel, Mercedes López Acea, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, as well as family members of the Five. The concert for our Five entitled ‘15 years of injustice is enough’ began with the words of one of these heroes, René González, and was attended by Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel; Mercedes López Acea, secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Havana; and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, among other leaders and family members of the Five.
In his remarks, René called upon people of good will around the world to stand in solidarity with his brothers arbitrarily held in the United States and demand ever more strongly that they be freed to return to their families, to their country and their people. The crowd’s applause, and the Cuban flags which waved throughout the concert, welcomed messages from Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino and Fernando González, who reiterated their will to struggle on and their confidence that the people will continue the campaign to let the world know about the injustice committed in their case which continues,15 years after it began.
