Havana, Cuba, Oct 5.- District attorneys, lawyers, judges, legal advisors and other professionals of law from different regions of the world, demanded on Thursday in this capital the revocation of the crimes of the five Cubans unfairly condemned in the United States.
In the final declaration of the 11th International Meeting of Criminal Science, more than 200 national and foreign jurists coming from Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa, rejected the sentences imposed on the patriots by a Florida court, in spite of the absence of evidence against them. Likewise, they highlight on the document that the principle of law forces district attorneys representing the US government to revoke the attributed crimes, since there are evidence that its client illegally contracted journalists so they distorted information to the detriment of The Five. The jurists’ declaration points out the connotation of Washington’s refusal to give information in its possession, a maneuver that served to condemn Gerardo, one of The Five, to two life imprisonments plus 15 years. The text concludes with a condemnation of the brutal violations of the human rights of The Five and reiterates the demand of revocation of the crimes for which they were condemned although they were innocent. Participating in the closing ceremony of the meeting, the next edition of which will be in 2014, were authorities of Cuban justice institutions and relatives of the five patriots.(ACN) CADENAGRAMONTE
