The President of the People’s National Assembly (Parliament) Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada called on the youth to break the wall of silence raised by the corporative media against the case of the Cuban Five, during his speech at the opening session of the 3rd International Youth Encounter of Solidarity with the Cuban Five.

Also member of the Politburo of the Communist Party Central Committee, Alarcon called on the youth to put all their energy, love, commitment and creativity into this task.

"The Cuban Five don’t exist for the media corporations, they have raised a wall around the case that makes it almost impossible to know the truth they embody," the Cuban leader said.

"We must permanently condemn the media corporations and their conspiratorial censorship and take advantage of any breach," he added.

Alarcón called participants at the conference to use the new information and communication technologies in the struggle for their freedom while keeping the political one-on-one work.

"The only crime of the Cuban Five was fighting terrorism. The evidence is irrefutable and enough to prove their innocence, that’s why the media controlled by Washington keeps people from knowing this evidence," he said.

First Secretary of the Youth Communist League Liudmila Álamo Dueñas said that this encounter was an outstanding demonstration of support to this noble cause worldwide.

She also explained that 180 youths from 33 countries paid they way to attend this encounter making sacrifices and overcoming obstacles. Also present at the encounter are members of youth and student organizations and social movements.

The opening day was also the frame for a meeting between participants and the family members of the Cuban Five. They expressed their gratefulness for the support and called on the youths to continue fighting for the freedom of the Cuban Five.

Antonio Guerrero’s elder child read a message of gratitude sent by his father on behalf of his comrades, while Irma Gonzalez, daughter of Rene Gonzalez spoke of solidarity actions with the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters, who have been held in US jails for nearly 13 years now, watch the video in English below.
