The global solidarity campaign in support of the Cuban Five has gained new impetus with a series of solidarity activities taking place in more than a hundred countries all over the world to demand freedom for five Cuban antiterrorists and to mark 14 years of their unfair imprisonment in US jails on September 12. As part of these new global efforts, a group of European solidarity activists has travelled to Havana to show their support for the Cuban Five through peaceful demonstrations. The activists were carrying a giant 14-meter banner with more than 4,000 hand imprints on it left by people in every corner of the world and messages all over demanding that US President Barack Obama release the imprisoned Cubans immediately. The banner was placed at the headquarters of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) for more people to leave their imprint and show their support for the five Cuban antiterrorists. ICAP president Kenia Serrano said that the solidarity action would be brought across Cuba and that the activists would attend the International Colloquium on the Five to take place in the eastern Cuban province of Holguin. On Wednesday morning, Graciela Ramírez, head of the International Committee to Free the Five, spoke about the importance of these new actions taking place in 113 countries all over the globe through October 8 to condemn the unfair imprisonment of the five heroes and to demand their liberation once and for all. Solidarity events include peaceful protests in front of US embassies in several countries and public lectures to raise greater global awareness on the case of the Five, to demand justice for them and to condemn the unfair legal process they were subjected to.
