WASHINGTON, June 26.—ON June 22, René González Sehwerert’s lawyers re-filed a motion with the Florida Southern District Court, Miami Division, requesting that his conditions of supervised release be modified and that he be allowed to return to Cuba, where his family is resident, the antiterroristas.cu. website reports.
René served his entire prison term and was released on October 7, 2011. Since then, he has been obliged to serve three years’ probation in the United States, which is preventing him from rejoining his family and society in Cuba. A similar motion was filed by René’s lawyers prior to his release. The judge’s response then was that he was required to serve the three years of supervised release so that she could assess his conduct. Now, eight months later, René has met each and every one of the conditions imposed on him. It is time for him to be allowed to return to Cuba. GRANMA
