Cuba will do everything possible for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the U.S, Cuban Parliament president Ricardo Alarcon stated Tuesday.
"Gerardo is an exemplary hero and the Cuban government will do everything it has to do to save him," Alarcon said Tuesday on the daily radio and television program Roundtable. Referring to the habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Hernandez, who is serving a double life sentence, Alarcon said a number of U.S. news reports have tried to confuse the solidarity movement by saying this request was against Havana. In his opinion, no court in that country will release the Cuban Five, the name by which Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez are known around the world. Only a jury of millions of people can release them, Alarcon affirmed. "Little by little, the case of the Cuban Five will become known, and when the day Americans become familiar with half the evils committed against the Five comes, the White House will have a lot of explaining to do," he said.
