6th INTERNATIONAL EVENT FOR THE FREEDOM OF THE FIVE Elizabeth Palmeiro, Ramón’s wife, recalling a recent visit to see him in a U.S. jail "WE weren’t even allowed to touch hands, neither the girls nor I," affirmed Elizabeth Palmeiro, while recounting details of a recent visit to her husband Ramón Labañino, imprisoned in the United States. During the 3rd Cuban Civil Society Forum, Ramón’s wife spoke movingly of the vivacity and optimism he has retained after 14 years of unjust incarceration.
In the Havana event, diverse representatives of mass, regional and international organizations condemned the unjust imprisonment of the five Cuban Heroes of the Republic and reaffirmed their commitment to continue the battle for the immediate release of the anti-terrorists. Aramis Fuentes, deputy director of the United Nations Cuban Association, read the final declaration of the Forum, ratified by all those present, "They will definitely return!" Also present at the forum were Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban Friendship Institute, and Graciela Ramírez, coordinator of the International Committee for the Freedom of the Five. GRANMA
