HAVANA, Cuba, June 3 (acn) The birthday of one of the five Cubans unfairly incarcerated in the United States, Gerardo Hernandez, will be celebrated on Saturday by the Association of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) at its office in this capital. An official of the Association’s presidency and organizer of the event, Yoandry Avila, told ACN that, starting from 4:00 p.m., troubadours, journalists and poets will meet to celebrate the 46th birthday of this hero and also to send their congratulations to Ramon Labañino for his upcoming birthday.
He added that the meeting will be held in coordination with California’s International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five. Avila informed that there will be a meeting in that US state in support of Gerardo, incarcerated in the US for over 12 years now for fighting terrorism, like Ramón, René Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez. Likewise, he announced that the Society of Humorists and Caricaturists of the Cuban press will exhibit some 10 works, which include calls to peace and to the need to put an end to injustice against The Five. The program includes a small book fair with texts by the Pablo de la Torriente Brau and Abril publishing houses as well as by the Cuban Book Institute. The official invitation, published on the organization’s Web site, specifies that admission is free and that participants will be able to send messages to these fighters.
