_ Seventh International Colloquium for the Freedom of the Cuban Five and Against Terrorism

GERMÁN VELOZ PLACENCIA

HOLGUÍN.— Those who are keeping our comrades in prison do not want to discuss it, they are afraid of the evidence and for that reason they used their power on the media, reads a message sent by President of the National Assembly of the People’s Power Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada to the participants in the Seventh Colloquium for the Freedom of the Cuban Five and Against Terrorism.

Alarcón expressed in his message that today they are fighting a huge battle to deliver all the information about the real magnitude of the plot between the prosecutor and the media in Miami-who were employed by the federal government-which created a storm of prejudice and hatred against the anti-terrorism fighters. The revelation of the details would be enough to annul this rigged legal process, the message reads.

He also spoke about the actions to annul the request by the prosecutor not to show the satellite pictures taken by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency of the United States in 1996, when two light aircraft that violated Cuba’s air space were taken down. This incident has been used to condemn Gerardo Hernández, one of the Cuban Five, to one of his life terms.

"There must be something really negative for the U.S. in those images when they have refused to show them for 15 years," Alarcón noted.

Finally, the president of the Cuban Parliament spoke highly of the remarkable contribution to the cause of the Cuban Five made by deceased lawyer Leonard Weinglass, who fought for the cause until his last breath without asking for prominence or material benefit.
