A message by Ramón Labañino - one of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in United States of America – was made known yesterday at the provincial headquarter of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), during the so-called Night of Solidarity. In the email sent to Camaguey-resident campaigner Jorge Enrique Jerez, Labañino tells how their cases have been politicized by the American judicial system, and also thanks the signs of support of the Cuban people in the struggle for their release.
The message was read to an audience in which students from 21 nations, of a total of 70 nations who are currently studying in this Cuban province, were present. These foreign students warned against the increasing dangers Rene Gonzalez is running in Miami where he must stay for a three year probationary period after his release from prison on October 7th. Likewise, they demanded the U.S. Government René's immediate return home with his family and people. During the Night of Solidarity, two local schoolchildren Ana Rita García and Eduardo Recio, were awarded for being the winners of the Mi sello por Los Cinco stamp collecting contest launched by El Cerro Philatelic Club, based in Havana.
