At least 1,000 children from Cuba's Jose Marti Pioneer Organization (OPJM) met in Havana on Thursday to demand of US President Barack Obama the release of the Cuban Five, anti-terrorist fighters held in US prisons for over 12 years.
Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez are serving harsh sentences for warning their country of criminal plans by Florida-based anti-Cuban groups. The gathering, held at Ciudad Libertad School, was attended by relatives of The Cuban Five, as they are internationally known, and members of the 19th Che Guevara Voluntary Work Brigade, from Canada, according to Cuban news Agency. Head of OPJM Yamile Ramos said this was a demand on behalf of all the children in Cuba, as part of the world initiative to implement actions every day on the 5th of each month for the release of The Cuban Five, including raising awareness on the biased criminal processes followed and the injustice committed against them. / PL Redaction AHORA
