Dominican Journalist Dedicates Photo Exhibition to Fidel Castro and the Cuban Five

Dominican journalist Felix Jacinto Bretón opened his photo exhibition titled From the Dominican Republic to Cuba in Bayamo, Granma, a province in eastern Cuba.

With an remarkable professional experience as a photographer, Breton dedicated this exhibition to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, "who is a symbol of firmness and perseverance," and the five Cuban antiterrorists held in US prisons.

"The just must defend the Cuban Revolution, which has come to be an example of dignity and social equity. The Dominican people, linked to the Cuban people by history, have valuable defenders across Marti’s homeland," said journalist Breton who, among other distinctions, was awarded the Duarte, Sanchez and Mella Order, in the category of Great Knight, which is the principal decoration the Dominican Republic confers on both civilians and militaries for distinguished services.

The head of Granma’s Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Noemí Rabaza, spoke about the historical ties of friendship between these two countries and also referred to the contribution of outstanding Dominicans, such as Máximo Gómez, the Marcano brothers and Modesto Díaz, to the fight for the independence of Cuba.

The exhibition, which is on displayed at the Oswaldo Guayasamín Visual Arts School, includes 42 photos of historical places and rallies organized in Cuba for the end of the US blockade and the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Gerrero, René Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez and Ramón Labanino.

Bretón opened a 70-photo exhibition on Cuban reality in the Dominican city of Santiago de los Caballeros on July 26. Currently, he is working on his book Cuba tal como es, which gathers chronicles and images of his almost one hundred visits to the island.
