Havana, Cuba, June 16.- In an open letter to US President Barack Obama, the Solidarity-with-Cuba Committee in Puerto Rico demanded the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist heroes unfairly incarcerated in that northern country since 1998.
The solidarity organization argues that Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez are purging underserved sentences, since they were contributing to protect –by legitimate and peaceful means- the territorial integrity of their country and the safety of their compatriots. The text criticizes the double standard of the US government, which refuses to admit the injustice committed against The Five, while it strives to protect international terrorist assassin Luis Posada Carriles. Likewise, it demands of Obama the release of Oscar Lopez, Avelino Gonzalez and Norberto Gonzalez, confined for struggling –in accordance with their principles and natural right- in favor of the decolonization and liberation of their Puerto Rican homeland. The message, circulated on the occasion of the visit of the US President to Puerto Rico, underlines that the head of state can return these patriots to their homes and homelands, the Prensa Latina news agency reports. Also, at the Czech Republic, members of the Solidarity-with-Cuba Movement at Usti Nad Labem organized, for the fourth year in a row, the climbing of the Milesovka Mountain (over 800 meters high) to send from its top a message of solidarity to the five Cuban heroes and demand of Obama their immediate release. This initiative of the Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia was supported by the office of the Czech-Cuban Friendship Association in that region, which every year mobilizes a larger number of youngsters and children, most of them relatives of members of that office. Venezuela’s ambassador to Bratislava, Victor Hernandez, joined this meeting in solidarity with The Five, adds the www.cubaminrex.cu Web site. (acn). cadenagramonte.cu
