Renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer joined the petition made by US artists and intellectuals to President Obama for the inmediate release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, who are internationally known as the Cuban Five. These men, whose only crime was fighting terrorism, have been serving harsh sentences in US prisons. After 12 years of unfair confinement, prestigious US artists reminded President Obama that the five Cubans were "frontline soldiers in the fight against terrorism and that "instead of using the information they collected to arrest terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch, who plotted violent actions against civilians, the FBI arrested those five men. Currently, the aforementioned terrorists walk free in Miami and organize dinners to raise funds in that city. GRANMA
