The national meeting of teachers, organized by the Juan Pablo Duarte Teaching Current, approved a resolution requesting the release of the Five Cuban Heroes incarcerated in the United States.

The resolution establishes the sending of a message to US President Barack Obama, requesting the homecoming of Antonio Guerrero,Fernando González, Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and René González, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

Professor María Teresa Cabrera, leader of the Juan Pablo Duarte Teaching Current, expressed that the Dominican teachers are joining once more the struggle of the Cuban people for the release of their brothers from US prisons.

The Five, whom all Dominican teachers know everything about, are imprisoned in an arbitrary and illegal way, and no crime against them has been proved, pointed out Cabrera.

The Resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of the members of the Juan Pablo Duarte Teaching Current and by professionals from other Dominican teaching currents, during a meeting held in Samaná, in the northern part of the country, from October 29th through the 31st.

Former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya and Cuban ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Juan Astiasarán were also invited to the Congress.
